My favorite one of these conspiracies is that Queen Elizabeth was really the author of Shakespeare's work.

I have to admit, for a while, I bought the theory that Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, was Shakespeare. I kept my receipt so I got my money back.

Jennifer DuBose I am thankful that this discussion was started! I am currently reading Romeo and Juliet with my 9th grade students and they are constantly asking if Shakespeare was real or not. (One class in particular loves to speculate conspiracy with just about anything). Now I have some good stuff to show to them and perhaps have our own debate/discussion!
