Mary It wouldn't let me post this without a book... so here! Anywayssssss

So you know those books that just irk you? THe ones you want to rip apart and cry to the world about the poor trees sacrificed to publish a disgrace of a book? (*Cough Twilight, and house of night COugh*) Well how about we all try to get word out? You know those of us who have been trying to write a book and then realize it might be a load of Sugar Honey Iced Tea?? I believe for future writers who don't want to embarrass themselves should listen to what the readers have to say.

What makes a book so good? How can someone create the new Harry Potter or Hunger Games? How/what could that author do to not screw their book up? I love character development. I like romances that are NOT INSTANT. What else irks you out there and what could you give as advice to those who are considering publishing a new book? Money spent on books should not be regretted!!

Mary So true:) Thanks for your input! I hope future writers would make a decent book

Something not cliche, and some foreshadowing but nothing ovbious

Mary Exactly. We already have too many hp copycats out there and i mean after the whole success of hp

Mary Same here:) I wish more characters grew in books

Mary :) Very nice that is something that makes it good. just like the hp series:)

Mary When it comes to genres you dislike, what could turn that dislike around? Like for me, i don't exactly like sic-fi but if the plot is not too cheesy shuch as the whole, "save the world" objection and i find the main character and antagonist interesting i will enjoy it

♥ Alexia -Team Malec ♥ an excellent story line, respectable characters, fantasy genre, romance :) and supernatural creatures. I'm attempting to write a story, but i don't want anybody to red it because i don't think people will like it. :(
my family have read it and say that they like it...but your family just says that, y'know?

Samuel Proulx It depends on when and why I'm reading. I mean, I would hate it if everyone constantly wrote thought provoking works like Atlas Shrugged or Starship Troopers, because sometimes I don't want to learn a life lesson or think about a political moral, I just want to lie on the beach and enjoy some fluff and mindless adventuring. But then, if all books were like The Reluctant Sorcerer or A Spell for Chameleon, I'd get tired of that pretty quickly. I think the best books I've read, both fiction or nonfiction, were written when the author was passionate about the book they were writing. I bet that most of the worlds awful books were written because the author wanted to write a book that everyone would enjoy, rather than writing the book that they really would love to write. That's why I have so much respect for J.K Rowling. She seems to know that she doesn't have another Harry Potter book in her, so she's moving on to something else she actually wants to do, publisher and society pressure aside.

i understand what you mean with the whole family thing. they never really tell you the truth. yeah it might hurt, but isn't that what helps and makes us grow?? if all we knew were their praises we'd be shocked to step out into the world.

So true. You couldn't have said it better. I have to admit that J.K Rowling is one of the best authors out there and I really really admire her courage and preservation. What you said about not liking moral teaching books at certain times, I have to admit I agree. I really love to read books that will suck me into a new world that I would dream to live in.

Natalie For me, it's a mixture of a bunch of things. If the characters are cardboard cutouts that never gain any depth or personality, I can't get into a story. If the plot is so predictable I know the ending as soon as I read the synopsis, I can't get into the story. I want a story to wrap me up tight and ship me out to some new place, time or situation that I, myself, will probably never be in.

And thats exactly what new writers are lacking. I hope all the time I pick up a new book that the author had sense

Haha yes hating the main character gets really annoying. And then you start to like them and then you can't. Then you wonder why you wasted your money

Allie Something with suspense and action and romance. If it doesn't have any of those three i won't even read it.

Mary Yeah i hate it when all there is in a book is just action
