Poppet and Widget are especially affected by the lighting of the bonfire. How crucial are their “specialties” to the ongoing success of the circus?

[Amy]

I think if the bonfire had never been lit and Poppet and Widget had not received their abilities through it, the circus would have died with Marco and Celia. There's no way it could have continued without a few to keep the magic going.

[Amy]

Meh! The author would have just come up with some other cockamamie plan to keep it going! I did like Poppet and Widget, but I felt like this was just put in last minute to have a way for the circus to continue.
