ABANDONED. Sasquatch rescues lost boy and gives blood transfusion?

I'm trying to find a children's book I read probably sometime between 1993-1996. The book is about a boy who gets lost in the forest outside of his house. While lost he falls of a cliff and gets seriously injured. He is rescued by a Sasquatch who tries to save him by giving him a blood transfusion. The sasquatch spends time nursing him back to health and then takes him in to the small town and leaves him on the steps of a building (maybe a post office?). He is returned to his mother but because of the blood transfusion he starts growing hair all over his body and no matter how often she cuts it, the hair grows back. I remember something about sasquatch coming back to the house at night to see the boy.

This is where my memory ends. I can't remember if the boy returns to the forest to live with the sasquatch or if she just comes back to his house to visit him? The only other thing that I remember is that as a kid I thought the book was scary. Please help!!! :)

It WAS scary! That's probably why I can't find it anywhere...people realized it wasn't really "kid" appropriate :)
