I have super bad eyes, apparently. But for some reason I'm like the only farsighted person I know. :P Like everyone with glasses are nearsighted and I'm just over her like the hipster glasses-wearer.

But seriously, can anyone please explain to me astigmatism is? Apparently I have it, but I'm still not even exactly 100% sure what it is. I'm a poor uninformed sufferer of it.

Isaac | 8014 comments Blueturtles wrote: "does the world look wierd without glasses too?"

For me, everything looks like a camera out of focus. Things right in front of me are really blurry while things in the distance don't look as blurry and are easier to see.

But I can't read a book without my glasses for my life.

I think it's something about an oddly shaped eye? Haha, I have no idea. But I have one too. xD

message 1457: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah_endipity) | 819 comments like how we are talking about eyes. hehe

message 1459: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah_endipity) | 819 comments we should start posting pics of eyes.

message 1460: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Emily, it is basically where the spherical shape of your eye is flawed (think bubbles), and it warps your vision. Hence the problem.

I have astigmatism also I think ... a little bit, anyway. It has something to do with how your eyes adjust/focus. It's like, for example––if you have astigmatism, you might be reading something and then when you look up everything is blurry for a second and then it goes back to normal. And I mean, I guess that happens to everyone but ... it's slower or something? I'm not 100% sure, but that's how my mom explained it to me ... haha.

Isaac | 8014 comments IF SOMEBODY WOULD WRITE ME A CAESAR/ANTONY OR BRUTUS/CASSIUS FAN FICTION I WOULD LOVE YOU FOREVER

See, once upon a time we read Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" in my English class and Antony acted so darn gay around Caesar that they became my gay OTP and Brutus and Cassius had some obvious sexual tension between them so.

Taylor | 0 comments ...because the Printz award is for original work? TFIOS was a run-of-the-mill cancer story.

message 1482: by Megan (new)

Megan Mweemba (meganlovesbooks) | 3196 comments I feel like "run-of-the-mill cancer story" is a term that should not be used...

message 1483: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Except that I saw Gus' death coming from the moment we knew he was "cured." I took one look at that scene and thought, "He's gonna suddenly take a nosedive at the end of the book and die. Furthermore, he's gonna know it was coming to him and die a silent hero."

In addition, the whole message of the book was, "Live life before you die." Just like all the cancer books out there.

Yup. So much for being unique right there.

Yes, like ten times. :P
And I do agree the ending was expected, but it was well-executed IMO.

message 1487: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Oh, I only remember once...someone mentioned that it was how all real-life stories go and then I checked out, 'cause that's bull.

Well-executed? I suppose. His writing is beautiful...but that's as far as I go with loving John Green. Nothing decent actually happens, and the characters are all too dull.

Wasn't it you who tried to convince me that Desplat was good? I listened to more Harry Potter, and now I hate him again.... His style, even with some of his most recent movies, is just so...bland.

John Green said it made him cry. Therefore, I must read it.

MOONRISE KINGDOM, RISE OF THE GUARDIANS. OH RISE OF THE GUARDIANS *cries*

message 1495: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments They are all in Youtube!

I love Williams with a passion and not because of Star Wars or Indiana Jones. It was Tintin's score that reeled me in.

Also, Michael Giacchino, John Powell (seriously, Bourne and How to Train Your Dragon were superb!) and Alan Silvestri.

What I didn't fully realise until recently is how absurdly good Bernard Herrmann was. His Hitchcock scores are on a completely other level, especially that Psycho theme, which is one of my favorite pieces of music, even outside of film.

I was furious with that year in the Oscars.

I loved Tron's score, even the electronic. James Newton Howard's The Tourist is beautiful. And Alan Silvestri's Back to the Future is awesome.
