Hey! I thought I'd start off by saying hello! I'm so excited to have a Q&A and get to know everyone better. In a few days, I'll be posting the first chapter to Chasing McCree, and look forward to seeing what you guys think :)

Erin Danzer | 5 comments Hi, J.C.! I think this is in your FAQ on your website, but what inspires you to write such amazing characters? I love how unique your characters and stories are.

I also love the two-pov format of your books. How difficult is that for you to keep straight? Are you able to write linearly or do you have to jump around when you write the first draft?

Can't wait to read the first chapter of Chasing McCree!

Cathy | 1 comments Hi JC,

I have read and love all your books and can't wait for Chasing McCree. I would love to see what happens to Zack and Chloe in the future. Are you going to write about them again?
Cathy

Hey Erin,

I think what motivates me, is what motivates the characters. I dream up a person, with the help of real life people, and then what makes them tick (Zack Warren is very loosely based on a guy I grew up with, and yes, he played baseball). After that I can't not write about them.

What also inspires me are the hero's and heroines from adult novels. When I read them, I always wonder what they would have been like in their teens.

As for POV, it's as easy to me as breathing. I started writing that way from the very beginning, years ago. It wasn't until I read Out Of This World, by Jill Shalvis, that I realized other people wrote this way too. I'd started to think I was the only one, and I got so excited! And to tell you the truth, I write what comes to mind first. For Chasing McCree, I actually wrote the last page first. The middle of the book is usually the last part I write. I've never started at the beginning and written straight to the end, and I don't think I ever will :)

Erin Danzer | 5 comments That is amazing. I have never written the last page first; most of the time I have no idea where the story is going when I first start writing.

I never thought about taking people from adult novels and wondering about their teen years. What a great idea!

Begin with an outline or an idea you like, and make it a short story. Just a couple pages, then try writing another and make it a little longer. You never know what you can do until you give it a go :)

I have that problem too sometimes, that's when I shut my computer off and stare off into space and brainstorm :) Yeah, I love to think about what other characters would be like when they are younger. Or what their younger sibling would be like.

Erin Danzer | 5 comments I have those moments, too, just staring off into space with a blank screen in front of me (or partially filled). lol. I figure even if I'm not writing, my mind is still going so really I am still writing. Though my kids laugh at me some times. LOL

I have more questions, but I will have to post them tomorrow when I can remember them.

I'm not writing when I drive lol. I always seem to be behind the wheel of a car when I come up with and idea, "Omg, I need a keyboard, stat!"

Person in passenger seat looks slightly concerned.... :)

Erin Danzer | 5 comments LOL! I'm always thinking about writing when I'm driving, though usually I'm alone or with a child who I can't dictate to. LOL

Just saw about Zack and Chloe! SQUEE! Another book! :)
(fangirl moment over. LOL)
