Laura Thalassa Hi everyone,

I’m the founder and editor of American Editing Services (http://americaneditingservices.com/), the affiliate editor of Lavabrook Publishing Group, and a blogger at Between the Lines: Edits and Everything Else. My rates are significantly under the industry standard because I believe that self-publishing should be affordable. If you’re interested in knowing more, you can either respond to this, or follow a link.

Happy writing,
Laura

Lisa, I just went to your site and I must be having a bad day. It looks like your cheapest service would be $75,000 for a 50K novel. Surely I'm mistaken.

Raymond, no that math cannot be right. This page http://bwrtours.net/?page_id=128 is the pricing.

On a basic read through and proofread, 50K words would be $225.

The Mid-range edit would be 400. The comprehensive package would be 600.

The price is per 1000 words, so you would multiply the price listed times 50.

I just want to chime in here to sing the praises of Lynda as an editor. It is hard to put into words just how amazing she is, both as an editor and a person. Now imagine that a writer is at a loss for words!

Her rates are reasonable and she gets back to you lightening fast. What I liked most about Lynda is that she offers a personal touch. She was truly invested in my story and its success.

Best decision I ever made was finding Lynda. My books are now able to be seen as they were intended and the reviews are starting to reflect all of her hard work. My review...5 Stars for this editor :)

Daniel Sherrier | 20 comments Writers need editors. Even the best writers do. If you’re an author, you know this. You probably have a little voice in your head telling you to hire a professional editor to take your manuscript to the next level.

Another voice, however, is probably nagging you about how expensive editing services can run. So here’s a potential solution. For the next week, through Oct. 3, I’m dropping my editing fee down to $5 per 1,000 words. (It’s normally $6 per 1,000 — still relatively low.)

How will you know I’m the right person for the job? Just send me the first five pages, and I’ll edit them for free. You’ll see firsthand how I work. Even if your project isn’t quite ready for editing, I can do those five pages now and lock you in at the discounted rate.

As an indie author myself, I have a vested interest in helping improve the quality of all books, indie and traditional, so I’m already rooting for your book to be the best it can be. The book market isn’t a zero-sum game. The more good books that exist, the more books people will buy. And if more “unknown” authors are producing books of exceptional quality, then the probability of discovery increases for more “unknown” authors.

I want to help you.

You can read more about my editing services at http://sherrierbooks.com/?page_id=272

Thanks for taking a look.

Daniel, I'm happy to see an editor post here whose prices are what I'd consider "reasonable," even though they're not the "nothing over $50!" variety.

I realize that expensive does not always equal quality work, and conversely, cheap doesn't always mean your manuscript will be unwittingly destroyed. However, there are so many offers of cheaper-than-cheap that it makes the reasonably-priced editors seem expensive by comparison.

message 138: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Sherrier | 20 comments Lynda, yes, there are editors with rates cheaper than mine, and some do great work. The reasons for the low rates vary -- some might approach it as a sort of community service, or they have a low cost of living and don't need to charge as much as others. In my case, I want to be able to devote some serious attention to each manuscript, so I have to charge at least $5 per 1,000 words to take that time.

Ermisenda Alvarez (ermisendaalvarez) | 12 comments Hello everyone!

Poisoned Waters by Ermisenda Alvarez

I'm looking for beta readers who can help me clean up my novel. For your feedback and editing critiques, you get a free book. For those willing to help out with editing (I really need a third perspective on the unnecessary adverbs/adjectives) then I will help out with my graphic design abilities (from a free book cover, or blog banner or something).

Poisoned Waters is my new mystery/suspense/thriller novel. The novel isn't too long, it clocks in at roughly 62 thousand words. Email me on ermisenda@live.com or leave a message below. :)

I have Kindle, ePub, & PDF formats.

Synopsis:
Bloody mistakes, ugly scars, and beautiful lies. A tale of corruption.

Helen Gardener is murdered on a trans-Atlantic cruise. The Diamond Royale sails from Southampton to New York with her murderer aboard. Set in the 1950s, Poisoned Waters follows the stories of seven unfortunate characters and how they are affected by her death. Was it merely an accident? Mr Phillips, the owner of the ship, and sponsor of the cruise, rules with an iron fist, in search of something or someone.

Lies spiral out of control as the suspects try to survive the final days on board. Conflicted by their sense of morals, greed, and lust, they realise what kind of people they really are. Who will rise? Who will fall? Who was Helen's murderer?

Book contains mild adult themes: violence, death, and sex scenes. Nothing explicit.

Bret James Stewart | 18 comments Hello, Fellow Writers,

I have extensive experience editing, proofreading, writing, and ghost writing. My clients have given me a 5-star ranking, and I rank in the top 1% for English on Elance.

I can provide any or all of the following:

--Lower order concerns
--grammatical editing
--proofreading
--content editing

--Higher order concerns
--segues
--plot
--voice and tone
--characterization

--Writing and Ghost Writing in most genres except technical writing.

Regarding editing, I go through each manuscript twice for accuracy. I excel at punctuation (I find this is where most writers need help). I also offer suggestions about how a book/ms can be improved, and many of my clients feel this is my best service. I am very familiar with MS Word. I generally use comment boxes, but can also utilize Track Changes or whatever editing app you prefer.

I charge a little more than some, but I feel the quality of my work warrants the extra investment. I work full-time as a professional editor and proofreader, so my turnaround time is faster than many. I also only work on one editing project at a time, so you are getting my full attention and, thus, a better job.

I am always available via phone, e-mail, IM, and/or Skype for your peace of mind and to talk about your writing.

Please inspect my Elance portfolio at https://www.elance.com/s/edit/bretjam... to get a feel for the quality of my work and testimonials. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. I can also provide references, if you want them. Karen-Anne Stewart is a Goodreads author with whom I have worked.

I have around 10 years experience editing and proofreading. I have done everything from romance to sci-fi to non-fiction to academic work.

For editing and proofreading, I charge $300 per 50k words (or portion thereof). This includes all the Lower Order Concerns with a minor focus on Higher Order Concerns. Contact me regarding very short works and/or a custom package, and I will be glad to place a bid.

For writing and ghost writing, I have to know about the project before I can make a bid. Please contact me about your project and we'll talk.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Bret James Stewart
