No hypothetical scenarios, no snake-oil salesman gimmicks—I just want to be the next greatest person to stumble into your life."Hiring Thomas as my editor felt like a leap in the dark, an investment in my passion I hoped would pay off. Two books later, and I believe he has been the best thing I have ever done for my writing...He's made me a better writer. In Amazon terms, he's a one-click purchase, all day long."
Clients of Main Line Editing benefit from a direct, thorough, and refreshingly honest approach, with edits supplemented by comments along the way reflecting what I would think as a reader as the story develops. Plot holes are closed, characters are rendered consistent, and all of this is done while preserving the integrity of your voice as the author.
All projects begin with a free sample edit of your first 1500 words. This lets me see what kind of editing is required, and you get a glimpse of what to expect from this devoted attention. If we agree that we'd make a good match, the work begins!
And the incredible prices you'll find on the website are not a mistake. My mission at Main Line Editing is to provide superior editing to those authors who can't afford to throw thousands at a book just to iron out the fine wrinkles.
Get in touch today to receive your free sample edit: thomasjshutt@gmail.com
*I am bringing on an associate editor and would like to get more clients for her training, so for anyone who would like a discount of 10% on their project, please mention "Carrie" in your contact message. All projects will still be overseen by me personally—this is just a thank-you for letting us use your manuscript as an educational tool.*
A WARNING TO ALL EDITORS:A friend of mine is a great "story" editor. She tells me that most of her clients are stand-up folks, but she's been "stiffed" by two:
Bayda Newton and Eleazar Noel.
Deal with them at your own risk.
Hi Authors.I'm a freelance editor who has worked successfully on 5 full length novels and 2 novella's as a developmental editor and copy-editor. I have also proofread various novels and am in the process of editing a soon-to-be released debut novel. I am currently booking for the rest of the year.
I'm running a special offer for authors who decide to work with me from now through Christmas. Not only will I do a free sample edit of any 3-4 pages of your manuscript, but if you choose to work with me, an additional 4 pages (or 1000 words) will also be free of charge.
I generally charge per page, but I know a a lot of indie authors do not have a big budget for editing, so authors can request a quote for both per page and per word fees. I will then sign off on the cheaper quotation.
I respect the author's voice and only do rewrites with the author's permission.
I have 2 spots available for October, 4 in November and 5 in December.
For more on services and pricing, please see my website http://moniquetheeditrix.weebly.com

I need someone to help me change in book size in word document. I tried and it didn't work. and flatten the pdf file and convert it into ePub versions.Pls contact me urgently at sandhya0019@yahoo.com

I need to resize and convert it into pdf for uploading it on ingramspark.
Thanks!
I've just recently published a book, q-cave, on Amazon. I had originally paid for a service for the full-blown editing package (not just checking for obvious grammar, spelling, etc), but also for content issues and formatting. The whole deal, since this was my first novel.I am past that point, and really want someone with fresh eyes to read through my sci-fi for any obvious spelling or grammatical errors. I am currently re-reading it, and finding a few issues here and there, so thought I might want to have someone else take a quick look (I had rewritten the book about 10 times since the first paid service, so it has changed considerably - but I tried to uphold the practices I learned from the editor).
I was hoping to pay no more than $0.50/page, the book is currently 416 pages. (Somewhere in the $200 range or less.)
If there is an editor out there who would like to help, the lower the price the better, of course, please email via Goodreads. And, please link your webpage, and any other references.
Thanks.

Sandhya, you should have an email from me in your inbox. I will forward it again just in case it didn't come through, though! =)

D.C., I'm committed to another editing assignment right now, but a quick glance at q-cave showed me that it looks like you tried to use drop-down lettering for the first letter of each chapter, which only works in the paperback version, and that Chapter 2 reads like a large info-dump while giving information on Maris and the family that Qualia is spying on. It was at that point that my interest waned, so I would recommend fixing the lettering issue and working on evening out the info-dump while the search for a proofreader continues.
If you have services you can provide such as cover design or intense beta-reading, you might also be able to leverage those skills in exchange for free or discounted editing from a freelancing editor/author in need. I hope this helps!

Thanks for your input Tom.
The Drop Down is only in the Print version. The Kindle version is formatted without it. Where did you see this, may I ask? I have double checked my Amazon files that are current on Amazon, and they are correct. Drop down letters ONLY in print version.
Please let me know.
Thanks.

Tom, also, thanks for the input on Chapter Two. All I have had is great feedback, you are the first to say you were bored, so to speak. One Facebook pm told me he "couldn't put it down," another, said she loved it. Glad to get some opposing input - I'll take a second look.
(again, please let me know where you saw the Drop Cap in eBook form. I hope it is not being pirated or whatnot. It doesn't make sense to me. I only sell on Amazon, and I've checked both live files. They are correct. Print with Drop Cap, eBook without. )
Thanks again.

Good day, everyone,If you're in need of an editor, I can't recommend mine highly enough. His name is Robert Helle, and, no, we're not related, so I don't have to say nice things about him. :)
Bob has a journalism background, and has since transitioned into working with indie authors. He does both line editing and content editing. He's affordable. And he's super easy to work with.

My book went through it's final editorial sweep this past week, but will bookmark Robert for the next one, which I'm currently working on.
Thanks again for the tip.

Hi,I will be needing an editor within the next couple of months. This is my first fiction book and will end up being between 95,000 and 100,000 words. Hints: Editors actually charge for their time. If they have to do a lot of work, they'll quote you a higher price than if your ms is in pretty good shape. To keep your costs down, do as much editing as you can before you put your book out to an editor. Get input from friends (who understand plot and punctuation) if you can. Ask for honest criticism, not honey-coated pap (then put on your iron undies).
Make sure your first chapter hits the ground running. That's what the buyers will see on Amazon or Smashwords, etc. You want them hooked from the start.
Avoid "info-dumps" as much as possible. SHOW, don't "tell". Yes, you have to know a lot about your world, but you don't have to tell the reader things s/he doesn't need to know.
For more tips, read Notes on the Craft and Business of Writing: https://alkalarediting.wordpress.com/... starting with How to Write a Salable Book or Novel, a 14-part series of very short "lessons".
Good books aren't written; they're RE-written. The real work is what you do AFTER your first draft. That's one of several reasons so few writers make it "big". So, be prepared for the real work when you finish that last sentence.
A good copy editor can fix your grammar. A good story/content editor can help with your plot. But neither one can make your ms into a best-seller (if we could, we'd be writing our own, rolling in dough, and not editing -- although many of us do write/publish on the side). The work YOU do is what will give your book the best chance at success.

Looking for long term or part time editors for the epic high fantasy series 'The Messiah of the New Worlds.' Payment is flexible to the editor's preference, with my personal preference at a fixed share of the publication revenue.
Proofreaders are likewise welcomed.

Hi everyone, I am an author but I also run a small editing business on the side around my day job. I've mainly edited shorter documents up to now - resumes, selection criteria responses and cover letters. I have a background in law/journalism and am just about to finish a Masters degree in professional writing.I'd love to be able to move to editing books. I have high attention to detail and extensive knowledge of grammar and sentence structure. I rewrite and edit copy to improve readability as well as detecting and correcting errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax. I can also verify dates, facts and statistics using standard reference sources.
Cost depends on the size of the project and amount of work needed - if I see a sample, I can give a more accurate quote. My rates are low-cost. I'm aiming to get more experience editing larger documents after all! Send me a message and we can discuss. Thanks!

Authors - we can help each other! I have had a wonderful relationship with a fellow author for quid pro quo editing on all of my three self published novels. I do hers, she does mine. In my opinion, she is just as good as people charging thousands of dollars for editing and she says the same about my editing of her work. IMO it's unreasonable to spend thousands or even hundreds of dollars for an editor if you self-publish. It's a big gamble because, for most Indi authors, chances are you will never recoup the cost from your royalties.
J. wrote: "Authors - we can help each other! I have had a wonderful relationship with a fellow author for quid pro quo editing on all of my three self published novels. I do hers, she does mine. In my opinion..."There's a lot of truth in what you say, J. Make sure the author you collaborate with actually knows the fine points of both language and writing in your genre. Plus the often overlooked problem of active vs passive sentences and other fine points that make the difference between "so-so" and "hard-hitting" writing.
AND make sure YOU know those these things.
Many writers do this. Some even join writing workshops where members critique each others work. The best group would be made up of writers who write in your genre (such as SFNovelists for SF scriveners: http://www.sfnovelist.com/index.htm).
In spite of all of this, many authors still choose to work with a seasoned professional for a number of reasons. I certainly stay fairly busy -- even though I give away a lot of free advice on my blog: (https://alkalarediting.wordpress.com/) Click on "Notes on the Craft and Business of Writing" Start with the "How to Write a Salable Book or Novel" series, then browse around for whatever interests you).
Whichever path (or combination of paths) you choose, I wish you good fortune. And keep at it. Those who "make it big" usually do so by publishing much more than one book.
I still have 3 spots left for this offer.Need something proofread in a hurry? I can promise a fast turnaround time and quality work.

Hello Zoe,
I just emailed you about inquiry for your services.
For authors who want to compare editing rates against a "standard", have a look at Amazon's copy edit rates: https://www.createspace.com/Services/...They charge 0.016¢ a word. That's $1600 for a 100K word novel!
Now, I'm sure that all of my fellow editors on this thread would be more than happy to quote and receive that kind of money. Anyone who wants me to edit for that rate will be pushed to the front of the line (grin$$$).
So, keep that in mind when a Copy Editor on this thread sends you a quote. You may be pleasantly surprised.
I don't know what story (content) editors charge (outside of one I work with) and I don't know what proof readers charge.
Amazon has a "line editing" service that sounds like a cross between a story editor and a copy editor (I personally don't think the skills mix well in one person). They charge 0.021¢ a word ($2100 for a 100K novel). https://www.createspace.com/Services/...
I hope this helps.

Are you looking for a voracious reader who can tell you the good, bad and ugly of your next novel's plot, storyline, characters and voice? Are you desperately seeking a dedicated grammar Nazi who will cut, clean and refine your work into near-perfect publishing shape?Well, your search is over.
I'm here to offer my services as a beta reader/proofreader/editor (or all three, depending on your requirements).
As for my qualifications, I'm a second-year college student, I've written two YA novels on Wattpad (http://www.wattpad.com/user/SwatiHegde) and I have a personal blog (http://geekie-chic.blogspot.com). I also have experience in free beta reading for fellow authors in the past, and I've been on the Editorial team of my school and college magazines.
The services I'm offering are:
- Beta reading
I will get back to you within three weeks with a full beta read report regarding any plot holes, inconsistencies, character development, plot structure, and my personal opinion.
- Proofreading
I will get back to you within two weeks with a corrected & highlighted Word copy of your novel along with some general remarks about the grammar and structure of the novel.
- Editing
I will get back to you within four weeks with a highlighted, edited and polished Word copy of your novel along with some specific remarks about the grammar, structure and voice of the novel.
- Beta reading, proofreading & editing
I will get back to you within two months with regular updates every week.
The genres I will work with include:
- Young Adult
- New Adult
- Romance
- Humor & Comedy
- Chick lit
- Mystery
- Dystopia
- Other Contemporary Fiction
Erotica is off the table for me.
If you're interested, please email me at geekiechicblog@gmail.com with the subject "Beta Reading/Proofreading/Editing Services" (depending on which one you need) with the name of your book, plot blurb and any specific requirements from me in the body of the email. I will get back to you with my rates.
Looking forward to working with you soon! :)
I was editing a year or so ago, then for health reasons I stopped but would like to do a little again.I look for grammar errors, punctuation and will check facts too. I am retired and started doing this to help starting authors, not to get rich so the rates are reasonable. My experience is in teaching children how to write and I use grammar reference books to back up the changes I suggest.
