helen hunger games and catching fire
i liked the beginning of mockingjay, where she does those interviews for Panem, cuz its so dramatic...but everyone started dying or going crazy

Vanessa Shannon wrote: "For me Catching Fire was my favorite::))"

me too.

helen how so?

That's really harsh."

Gale didn't die!

Swathika Manu I loved this book, but i kind of felt some holes in it.

What's the matter with you ppl? This book was awesome.

rocksann The Hunger Games is still one of my faves & I really like Catching Fire but Mockingjay ruined the series for me.

Gale didn't die!"

Oh I know that.
It's just someone said "Gale should have died" and I said why should he and that's a harsh thing to say.

Kelly Sermeno I'm not sure which one is my favorite... I cannot chose I loved them all! I'm just sad its over :( I know the last one alot of people weren't happy with, but I was! I know it didn't have the happily ever after kind of ending, but I think it was a realistic ending. Which I think, is what the author was going for. It did have that short flash foward that showed that they are happy together, with their family. I only wished that the flash foward had something about Haymitch in it. But I loved all 3 books. I am satisfied with the ending. People gotta keep in mind it was more of a war-type of book then a romance book, ever since the very begining, so they don't expect something more at the end.

i'm agree, and what about the poor treatment of the Finnick's dead.. it was like, nothing, another character died.. ok.. let's go peeta LOL

helen I just feel really bad for Annie, since Finick died. Nothing really happened to Haymitch, or Gale and billions of other people. So Mockingjay was pretty inconclusive...

Camila Andrea wrote: "It was actually my least favorite of all three."

i feel the same

Angela no it was my least fav.
the first one was my fav.

Chris ↛ Nope! I didn't quite like the ending... Its like She (Suzanne Collins) gave Prim one year to live... Which was annoying since its like Katniss sacrificed herself for nothing!

And no sense of closure was given to the other characters of the book...

Chris ↛ Clra wrote: "I actually thought it was the worst. My fave was Catching Fire, when we get to know our characters more in depth, especially Peeta."

I Agree with you!!! I loved the second book!

Chris ↛ Roxanne wrote: "The Hunger Games is still one of my faves & I really like Catching Fire but Mockingjay ruined the series for me."

So True! The same thing goes for me!!! It was a bad way to end the series!

message 72: by helen (last edited Apr 06, 2012 07:04PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

helen she should have just ended it when Katniss said, real.

Haidi I really enjoyed the feeling of that ending too Helen, I liked that image it left me with of the two of them.

I didn't really need the chapter on their lives in the future. It was hard to imagine them like that.

message 74: by Mara (new) - rated it 2 stars

Mara I have a hard time calling favorites with this trilogy. They get progressively better with each installment, but I still can't call favorites because each book has its own unique flaws. I got really tired of Katniss always lamenting "Oh, I'm responsible for that person's death!" in this one. But I did absolutely love the ending.

Gabrielle Mallozzi i didn't love it because peeta gets brainwashed and it never says if he's fully healed!

Mahesh no...Mockingjay is my least fav book of the series...its just like pieces fell apart from the whole....which is travelling way too fast and way too high...but i liked the few pages before completion of book...the turmoil that Katniss felt and went through after the war and the epilogue though..!!

but my fav is 2nd one...catching fire...its the unknown chemistry...the alien feeling of human closeness, the trust of each other on each other...and finally love...but still the chemistry between the characters tied my heart :D

Mara Gabrielle wrote: "i didn't love it because peeta gets brainwashed and it never says if he's fully healed!"

I agree that the lack of clarity on whether or not Peeta is healed was annoying. That is something that I think ought to have been explained in full.

helen the epilogue scared me.........its just like, whoa, we totally don't need to hear about you pregnant!

Haidi As far as whether this was my favourite book in the series or not - I never look at a series as individual books.

For me it's just one big story. So I have to say I love the whole story (all three books) don't regret reading them and glad I came across them.

Alexis O I did not enjoy Mockinjay as much as the other books, but I think it was a wonderful conclusion to the series. I felt tortured by the book, with very little relief from the pain. In the first two books, I could share in the tiny pleasures of the characters, having a delicious meal like they've never had before, developing unexpected alliances, etc. This book was just so much darker.

I think that the whole idea throughout the trilogy was that Katniss had good instincts. She never knew exactly what was going on, but once she pieced it together, she would figure out the perfect reaction (the nightlock berries in Hunger Games, the arrow to the dome in Catching Fire, and that the biggest danger to the Districts' future was replacing Pres. Snow with Coin, a woman who thought that another Hunger Games starring the Capitol's children was a good idea).

Katniss was never a revolutionary; she was just trying to protect the people she loved. I think that the author did a good job of showing her as a girl who was caught as a pawn in someone elses's game and cleared up the motives of some of the other characters much more in this book than the previous two.

Emily the first book is the best and then they just get worst, its too sad.

Chelsey first it has to be my fav. and catching fire has to be my 2nd fav so that really leads to that... that moking jay is the worst of teh series

Haidi Wow Alexis, you described the essence of the books perfectly. Well said. :)

Pamela This entire trilogy is about government oppression. Does anyone realize this! Mockingjay is the BEST because it shows overcoming the oppression. Yes Finnick died. The price of war is high. We need to be observant and stand against the small little steps the government can take to oppress its citizens.

Hannah I liked all three books, but this one didn't hold my attention as well as the other two.

Pamela Most of these comments could have been written by people from the Capitol-- are you truly so clueless?

Catherine 1st-fave!
2nd-okay...
3rd-HORRRIIIIIBBBBBBLLLLLEEEEEEE!!!

message 88: by Ayu Adisty (last edited Apr 08, 2012 11:38PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ayu Adisty at first, yeah, hated it. to the core of my despair, I hate it.

But when I re-read the series, I can accept it better than I was before. I realized that this book is about war, and rebellion. It could be ended happily, but we have to prepare for the worst as well. And I think the end of Mockingjay isn't the worst. They could've been blown up by a huge atomic bomb and they all die and only cockroach survived.

or all this time Katniss was just dreaming. *flip table*

Is it my favorite book of all 3? Hell no, it makes me desperate for couple of days, and blaming every lizard I've seen for what they've done to Finnick. But I don't hate it either. I love how these books compliment with each other. Remember, it's about war, not everything we want will come true. :D

Haidi Pamela wrote: "Most of these comments could have been written by people from the Capitol-- are you truly so clueless?"

Ah - yes Pamela, i think people do understand that these books are about government oppression, BUT just because they haven't enjoyed reading Mockingjay as much as the others doesn't mean they are "clueless" as you so pleasantly put it.

The topic of the thread was "Was Mockingjay your favourite book in the Hunger Games series?" and people are contributing thier answers.

I understand fully what the books are about, but like many other people wouldn't say that I loved Mockingjay the best.

Understanding what a book is about and liking a book are two different things.

Tamara Most of the fanbase thinks the book was very disappointing and I agree!!!

Disappointment 1: Way too many important characters die and their deaths are just shrugged off.And nobody is properly mourned(Why the hell Prim and Finnick dies?!!!)

Disappointment 2: The way Katniss finally reveals her love for Peeta and how Gale just disappears at the end.All that building up in deciding who Katniss would choose and thats it?!Gale doesnt even say goodbye?

Disappointment 3: The final section of the book is garbled and confusing and seems rushed. It felt like Collins was on deadline. What about the oppression of the capitol and the new government? What's gonna happen now? There's no closure there?Come on!!!

To sum up;ok, it wasn't your usual happy ending.I'm ok with that.I love when people die because it seems real that not everybody survives but but the book is really rushed.2 books of building to this rebellion and battle and even love triangle happening and this is what we get; things are unresolved or unexplained.

XHoney_Hutcherson_Candy My fave is The first one

Alexis O Tamara wrote: "Most of the fanbase thinks the book was very disappointing and I agree!!!

1. Katniss talks about mourning the lost characters in the last chapter and the epilogue, how she, Peeta, and Haymitch created the book of remembrance. Even about 20 years later, in the epilogue, they are still mourning. Haymitch returned to alcohol as an escape from the memories and when alcohol was unavailable in his home, he took the train and ran away. I don't think that it is a stretch to believe that other people felt the same way as them, still mourning years later.

2. Gale did say good bye. When he realized that his love for Katniss would always be intermingled with the pain of her sister's death, he knew what she realized later, that Gale was not what she needed to survive. She needed the man who reminded her of the good things and kindness in the world

3. The end did seem a bit rushed, but Katniss decided to have children. That tells me that a much more trustworthy government was in place afterwards. Yes, she was frightened after what happened to her, but if she had any legitimate fear, she never would have brought a child into the world.

Alexis O Gabrielle wrote: "i didn't love it because peeta gets brainwashed and it never says if he's fully healed!"

I don't think that he, or any of the other characters ever fully heal. Unfortunately, after such horrors, most people are forever changed. They just have to learn how to find happiness even while living with those horrible memories. That's the happiest ending they can hope for. It's like the last line of the book, "There are worse games to play."

They still have nightmares, but when they wake up, they no longer live in those nightmares.

Haidi No problems. I can get very affected by things people write too sometimes, (being an adult reader my perspective can be very different to younger readers) but I've learnt to just let them have thier say and not get too worked up trying to make everyone see things from my point of view. :)

i agree with you girls, but we can do some constructive criticism of some parts of the story which we don't like, it doesn't mean the whole book was bad at all. Personaly, i don't like the GRAN FINAL.

greetings from Chile, Camila

Alyssa i thought it was great, though it was really depressing cause of everything that happened with finnick and peeta
but i loved the ending!! ( besides prim dying)

Yes - there were situations I did not like. Prim & Finnick, to name a couple, but it does end with success over oppression.

message 100: by Tegan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tegan Favourite? Pu-Leeees!
It was the worst (it was still great so don't go crazy!)
Slow than fast than even slower than nothing happens than EVERYTHING happens and then it stops again skips into some action slows down to normal pace and than its the future.
But still... I guess if it was written differently it wouldn't be the same...
