That's really harsh."
Gale didn't die!"
Oh I know that.
It's just someone said "Gale should have died" and I said why should he and that's a harsh thing to say.

same for me

idk. I just love it SO MUCH!

idk. I just love it SO MUCH!

i'm agree, and what about the poor treatment of the Finnick's dead.. it was like, nothing, another character died.. ok.. let's go peeta LOL

And no sense of closure was given to the other characters of the book...

I Agree with you!!! I loved the second book!

So True! The same thing goes for me!!! It was a bad way to end the series!

I didn't really need the chapter on their lives in the future. It was hard to imagine them like that.

but my fav is 2nd one...catching fire...its the unknown chemistry...the alien feeling of human closeness, the trust of each other on each other...and finally love...but still the chemistry between the characters tied my heart :D

I agree that the lack of clarity on whether or not Peeta is healed was annoying. That is something that I think ought to have been explained in full.

For me it's just one big story. So I have to say I love the whole story (all three books) don't regret reading them and glad I came across them.

I think that the whole idea throughout the trilogy was that Katniss had good instincts. She never knew exactly what was going on, but once she pieced it together, she would figure out the perfect reaction (the nightlock berries in Hunger Games, the arrow to the dome in Catching Fire, and that the biggest danger to the Districts' future was replacing Pres. Snow with Coin, a woman who thought that another Hunger Games starring the Capitol's children was a good idea).
Katniss was never a revolutionary; she was just trying to protect the people she loved. I think that the author did a good job of showing her as a girl who was caught as a pawn in someone elses's game and cleared up the motives of some of the other characters much more in this book than the previous two.

But when I re-read the series, I can accept it better than I was before. I realized that this book is about war, and rebellion. It could be ended happily, but we have to prepare for the worst as well. And I think the end of Mockingjay isn't the worst. They could've been blown up by a huge atomic bomb and they all die and only cockroach survived.
or all this time Katniss was just dreaming. *flip table*
Is it my favorite book of all 3? Hell no, it makes me desperate for couple of days, and blaming every lizard I've seen for what they've done to Finnick. But I don't hate it either. I love how these books compliment with each other. Remember, it's about war, not everything we want will come true. :D

Ah - yes Pamela, i think people do understand that these books are about government oppression, BUT just because they haven't enjoyed reading Mockingjay as much as the others doesn't mean they are "clueless" as you so pleasantly put it.
The topic of the thread was "Was Mockingjay your favourite book in the Hunger Games series?" and people are contributing thier answers.
I understand fully what the books are about, but like many other people wouldn't say that I loved Mockingjay the best.
Understanding what a book is about and liking a book are two different things.

Disappointment 1: Way too many important characters die and their deaths are just shrugged off.And nobody is properly mourned(Why the hell Prim and Finnick dies?!!!)
Disappointment 2: The way Katniss finally reveals her love for Peeta and how Gale just disappears at the end.All that building up in deciding who Katniss would choose and thats it?!Gale doesnt even say goodbye?
Disappointment 3: The final section of the book is garbled and confusing and seems rushed. It felt like Collins was on deadline. What about the oppression of the capitol and the new government? What's gonna happen now? There's no closure there?Come on!!!
To sum up;ok, it wasn't your usual happy ending.I'm ok with that.I love when people die because it seems real that not everybody survives but but the book is really rushed.2 books of building to this rebellion and battle and even love triangle happening and this is what we get; things are unresolved or unexplained.

1. Katniss talks about mourning the lost characters in the last chapter and the epilogue, how she, Peeta, and Haymitch created the book of remembrance. Even about 20 years later, in the epilogue, they are still mourning. Haymitch returned to alcohol as an escape from the memories and when alcohol was unavailable in his home, he took the train and ran away. I don't think that it is a stretch to believe that other people felt the same way as them, still mourning years later.
2. Gale did say good bye. When he realized that his love for Katniss would always be intermingled with the pain of her sister's death, he knew what she realized later, that Gale was not what she needed to survive. She needed the man who reminded her of the good things and kindness in the world
3. The end did seem a bit rushed, but Katniss decided to have children. That tells me that a much more trustworthy government was in place afterwards. Yes, she was frightened after what happened to her, but if she had any legitimate fear, she never would have brought a child into the world.

I don't think that he, or any of the other characters ever fully heal. Unfortunately, after such horrors, most people are forever changed. They just have to learn how to find happiness even while living with those horrible memories. That's the happiest ending they can hope for. It's like the last line of the book, "There are worse games to play."
They still have nightmares, but when they wake up, they no longer live in those nightmares.

Haidi- thank you for putting the thread into perspective for me. You are correct and I just let my emotions get the best of me. -with respect, Pamela.

i agree with you girls, but we can do some constructive criticism of some parts of the story which we don't like, it doesn't mean the whole book was bad at all. Personaly, i don't like the GRAN FINAL.
greetings from Chile, Camila

but i loved the ending!! ( besides prim dying)

but i loved the ending!! ( besides prim dying)"
Yes - there were situations I did not like. Prim & Finnick, to name a couple, but it does end with success over oppression.

It was the worst (it was still great so don't go crazy!)
Slow than fast than even slower than nothing happens than EVERYTHING happens and then it stops again skips into some action slows down to normal pace and than its the future.
But still... I guess if it was written differently it wouldn't be the same...
