No dely. we do not follow Daylight Settings in India. I think it is done only in Europe , Canada and maybe USA...

India did follow briefly during war time it seems....
We always had atleast one person not turn up for the shift at the correct time.....when clocks changed....
I used to get quite confused until I heard this.....
In spring, the clock springs forward (add an hour)and in fall or autumn, the clock falls back......

war times as in indo -pak , indo - China wars??? i don't see the point of having DST in wartime. do you know why it was followed then??

Perhaps because during DST there is more daylight in the evening and in the morning and so enemies had less time and opportunities to hide.

by the way, although a delayed reply, vinoth, daylight savings time was observed in india during the wars with pakistan and china. it was to reduce civilian energy consumption.
to clarify, say an office job is from 9 to 5...
suddenly the clocks change...in spring...springs forwards.. the person is actually working from 8 to 4 although the clock says 9 to 5....

ok..i will try to explain what i think.....may not be the best way to explain though.....
say a job is from 9 to 5. the person gets up at 7 and gets ready in 2 hours , finishes work, comes home around 6, potters around the garden, goes to sleep at 9.
in spring, the clock has changed. so he or she is actually getting up at 6, works 8 to 4, comes home around 5, goes to sleep at 8.
effectively using daylight.......that is why it is daylight saving time.....
at home, he or she uses less lamps and tubelights as he or she comes home early and gardens or shops in sunlight. and goes to sleep early switching off all appliances.
it is not office use of energy. it is home use.

ok.i get it. but still i dont feel it would have saved energy practically...as far as i know there was a decree for lights out after a certain time limit during the wars.Now that is what i'd say would have worked in saving energy..
