Second class is something that I find is never the top discussion when it comes to classes on the Titanic.
Second class was the only class it have 100% of any kind of survivors. All of the second class children survived.
I also heard in a documentary (or was it a book?) that second class had more men die than in third class and of first class. That's because they didn't have the 'importance' of first class, and they weren't as strong (being able to push pass people) as the third class.

Margaret | 44 comments Notice how even in here this class is the most neglected. :) I guess that's part of the "romantic tragedy" of Titanic. We know far more about those in 1st class than the other two but because of our fascination with class distinction of the time 2nd class passengers are neglected in lieu of the third class if for no other reason than to contrast them against the 1st class, "Titanic's immortal stars". LOL

It's sad really, that this class is hardly discussed, I don't really know many stories about second class... I think we should all try and find some stories on second class and then share them here, that way we have something to discuss. What do you all think?

Margaret | 44 comments I think it's a great idea!

The second class passenger I remember best from the documentaries is Eva Hart. I just really liked her attitude, and not to mention her story. Her mother was the one who had such a strong premonition that the ship would sink, she stayed up every night and slept during the day. Eva Hart lost her father but survived with her mother. She also said that when her father told Eva to get into the boat with her mother he gave her her teddy bear to hold onto. Eva said she never wanted another teddy bear after that night.

But I have to say my favorite line by her in any documentary was (oh and don't forget before Titanic was discovered in two pieces at the bottom of the ocean a lot of people were skeptical about the witnesses who swore they saw that ship break in two)...

"I always said I saw that ship break in two and now it's been found at the bottom of the ocean in two pieces (she kind of paused there with a little grin on her face before she continued) just like I know I heard the band play Nearer My God To Thee as its last song." (Because it's also been debated that band played "Autumn" and not Nearer My God To Thee).

That's a touching story... I love the part about the teddy bear. I'm going to try and find a story today if I have time.
