L.E. Fitzpatrick (l_e_fitzpatrick) | 33 comments I love reading a really good book, you know the type, where you just can't say why it's good it just is.

I've had a consistent run with good books for a while and the latest Halfhead is no exception. It blends crime and sci-fi beautifully, or gruesomely (depending on what floats your boat).

Anyway I am down to my last 50 pages, the plot is about to reach some sort of epic finale and so far the build up is keeping my adrenalin rushing... now for my really bad habit, it is going to take me several nights to get these pages finished. I am a savourer I want the end to last as long as possible. Finish time estimated sometime around Saturday night... for 50 pages.

Is this a ridiculous habit? Can you top me?

Sophie (imhrien) | 17 comments That's...some impressive restraint. As long as you aren't physically shaking while you read, with protruding bloodshot eyes, I think yer fine. If you do, well...hey, at least you can enjoy something to the fullest. Float away.

Jade | 1 comments Yeah, I'd call that an "impressive habit" not a weird one! I don't know if you'd call this weird, but the more I like a book, the more I need to eat something while reading it... nuts, ice cream, whatever. You'd think the better the book is, the less I'd need something else to go with it, but actually the opposite is true. A boring book I can just sit there and plod through. Weird enough for ya?

That is an awesomely weird habit Jade I feel in good company ; )

Susan | 9 comments Is the need to usually read three or four books at a time a weird habit? The only time I read one book at a time is if my week is ridiculously busy. :-)

Jennifer Wiggins | 37 comments I'm the opposite! I'll shirk other responsibilities so I can barrel through, I just cannot wait to find out what happens! We'll eat leftovers or sandwiches for dinner if I'm in a really good part of a book. I will take extended bathroom breaks just so my husband won't talk to me so I can focus on my book. When we were dating I started to re-read the Dune series, one of my favorites, and he was kind of little bit hurt that I just ignored him for about a week and a half. Actually, I was unemployed, so it was probably only a week to read the series.

Clay | 126 comments Hah, I can't restrain myself when I get into a good book/series. I read as much and as often as humanly possible to devour the book/series. heh, I was at work, reading on break, trying to ignore everyone there....and the woman that is now my fiance physically removed my book from my hands so she could introduce herself LOL.

Ken (kanthr) | 165 comments I need silence to read, or at least the noise around me to be monotonous, droning, or otherwise easy to tune out.

I conjure the voice of the narrator in my head quite literally, as it seems to me, and when others interrupt my reading with conversation or the noise around me becomes too intrusive, I find myself straining to hear. I don't like being an inattentive audience so I always close the book immediately when this happens.

As a result, I find I can read quite fluidly and quickly, so long as my conditions are met. When they're not, I've got to be the slowest reader on the planet. I'd re-read sentences, again, again again, close the book.

How's that for weird!

Jim | 418 comments I just think it's great that so many people enjoy reading :-)
Which probably makes me weird as well

L.K. Evans | 5 comments I'm with you, Kenneth. I like silence. No, I LOVE silence. I also develop a voice in my head that reads the story, and it changes for the different characters.
Unlike L.E., I MUST finish it! I've stayed up till 3am, eyes burning, head aching, because I NEED to know what happens. Then I dream about it. For several nights, actually. If I've fallen in love with a series, nothing else exists in my world until I'm done. Unfortunately, I haven't had that feeling in awhile. I miss it.

Ken (kanthr) | 165 comments I too have gotten myself in trouble by remaining transfixed while the early hours ticked away. A few times, I would see the eastern sky brightening when I finally shut the book after the last page. Having to go to work after that is no fun at all.

Sharon Michael | 99 comments I'm another reader that prefers silence. No music, no background noise ... silence. Since I have a husband who is pretty much a TV watcher, I've been know to insert earplugs to read!

I also can't put a good book down easily ... I know I'm going to be frustrated because once I finish I may not like the next one as well ... but I still have to read and find out how things end NOW!

message 15: by Rinelle (new)

Rinelle Grey (rinellegrey) | 8 comments I have the opposite problem. When I hit a book that I really enjoy, I just can't put it down until I finish it! Even if I make myself put it down (like to go shopping or work), then its all I can think about, and I'm counting the minutes till I can get back to it.

Drives me mad!
