The first... like.... 175 pages are SOOOOOOOOO boring!! but once she gets through the desert it's SOOOOOOOO good!! So keep chugging through it! It'll get better, promise!

Maura I didn't abandon the book, but I didn't think it got any better as it went on...

Nichole The first 100 pages are really boring. After that, though, it becomes amazing!

Challis It was hard to get into in the beginning the first time around but now that I've read it about three times I LOVE IT! to be honest thought the last time i read it i skipped everything and just went staight to her being in the desert. So sue me.

M.R. Yeah, it's definitely slow at first. I checked it out from the library and when it was due in three weeks, I was only about a third done. I almost just took it back and said forget it. But I decided to give it another try and checked it out again and picked up where I left off. It was worth it. The latter half of the book is much better than the first.

Vivian I borrowed this from the library, read the first few chapters, then returned it unfinished. I just could not get into it. Was very disappointed. I wish Stephanie had finished Midnight Sun instead.

Nichole ^You should give it another shot. Really, the first few chapters are horrible. Any fan of The Host will be able to say that. After she makes it through the desert, though, the book becomes amazing.

I may try it again after I finish The Mortal Instruments. thanks for the recommendation.

Laura I flew through this book! It was awesome. :) I do admit the first 100 pages could be kinda boring, but it does get better :D

Prerna i didn't find it hard to get into the book at all.. i read the whole thing in a day if i remember correctly.. i absolutely loved it.

Denise (Ducky) Don't give up. I tried 5 times to read it and I finally said "I'm not putting it down this time" and I finished it and LOVED it. I have audio and print. I hope she does more in this series. Does she have ANYTHING working right now? Does anyone know?

She'll be back to writing in May.

Rachael I agree, The Host gets better the further on you read.

Brielle I started it and was so bored I quit halfway through. A few months later I started again and made myself get through it and I ended up loving it!!

message 17: by Dani (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dani I enjoyed it more as it went on...it was worth the slog! I ended up really enjoying it, although did think a few (ie. 100!) pages could have been edited out!

Jamie I loved this book better than the Twilight saga. BUT I'm a little peeved that there was no siquel?? I mean the book is almost 4 years old...so what's SM doing in her spare time these days?

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I've heard it's becoming a trilogy.

Nichole Sm is working with someone on a film at the moment. She is also busy now that they are filming the host. She has the first few chapter of the second host book done, and yes, it is to be a trilogy.

Sharon Yes it is slow to start but seriously...stick with it. It is well worth it!

Jazmin It is slow at first but its all worth when you get to the good parts of the book.

melvatoast I read this book when I had first finished Twilight, and I think that made it harder to get into because I was so used to Stephanie Meyer's writing style telling a certain story. The Host is so different and looking back on it I loved the story, even though it was hard to get into at first. Thinking about re-reading it.

Minerva Yes its slow and boring at first, but if you keep reading it gets way better. Loved this book!!! My friend had the same issue and stopped reading it, but I kept telling her it gets better and now shes reading it again. Very good book!!!!

I liked it from the beginning!!!

Stephanie O'dell The Host is a great book right from the beginning. The beginning chapters tell you the background and setting of the book and is necessary for the reader to understand what is happening. The first hundred pages in most books start out a bit slow but it's not dull to the point of abandoning the book.Takes about 30 minutes to read through 100 pages anyway and it is an awesome book.

S.L.J. The movie will be terrible.

Do you know when it will be coming out?

message 29: by Nancy (new) - rated it 1 star

Nancy I first tried book, got 1/4 into it and returned to library. I tried audio and got a little farther but not much. I really wanted to like this book, just couldn't get into it.

2013. It's in pre-production now. There is just one problem...nothing happens! The majority of the book is made up with the inner conflicts and personal development of a single character and that can't be translated to the screen unless you're Tyler Durden or Andy Dufresne.

It's just going to be two hours of nothing.

Melani I liked this book from the first page to the last. I couldn't stand Twilight, so I almost didn't give this book a try. I'm very glad I did.
