What's your reading speed?

When I was studying I could read much faster, but it takes me some practice to get into the rhythm. My brain is like one of those old cars that needs winding up to get it started. :)

I am not such a fast reader as I used to be, but these days, I read to remember and enjoy. I do reread paragraphs quite a lot.
I average 20-30 pages per hour when reading.
For me it depends very much on what I am reading. Non-fiction I read at a speed of 30 pages an hour. But when I was at university I only had to read my books once to get high grades at my exams because at that speed I remembered everything.
Fiction I read a lot faster depending on the book, the lay-out and how long I have been reading. The first 15 minutes I am slow but once I get into the story and especially if I like it I go trhough it like the pages are empty.
My computer is a bit slow loading pages and that means that time was already going before I saw the tekst and could start reading. Getting through the whole thing once took me about 10 minutes. I did have a reading speed of 320 words.

I found the first one really boring though. With Alice I think I had an advantage because I've read that already, so it was easier to read and comprehend quickly.
I wonder what my reading speed was at varsity...

The thing is though I know I read slower than that because once I'm sucked into the book I read as though I'm reading to my niece. Each character has a different little voice in my head and this slows down the reading a bit though its more enjoyable for me.
If I read the newspaper, a text book, a few short paragraphs or some work related documents then yes I probably average around 330.
I think like Henri I get about 20-30 pages per hour.
I think the test is a bit biased since you know it's a test and approach it that way. I'd guess for leisure reading most of us will read at around 60-70% of the speed.
Still very interesting. On another forum I've posted this to there are 2 people who managed more than 840! That's insane.

Did you do all three?
Did you do all three?

I'm not even going to take the test. I read super slow. I sometimes read sentences over and over and I procrastinate so the test won't show my real figure :(
Claudine wrote: "Yup. Edited my post after I did all three. I must confess though that I took a speed reading seminar in primary school many years ago that certainly gives me an edge now."
That it does.

Well, do it just for fun. You might be surprised by the results.

I received a phone call earlier this morning, and because of it, I am sooo excited that I have only been able to read 23 pages in the last 3 hours....
I cant seem to concentrate.

Want to share the excitment?"
Got an interview tomorrow that could be life changing. Currently I am a wedding photographer, (My blog) and also partner at an internet cafe, but this interview I am going on tomorrow can be life changing to say the least

All the best for the interview then. Good luck!

Take the test and share your result.
Mine seems to be between 345 - 350 words per minute.
My best was 392 on the Wizard of Oz one.
Unfortunately they only have the 3 bits of text, so retesting gives you an unfair advantage.
