I'm reading Farenheit 451 this month too. It was chosen as the group read in a sci-fi challenge group I'm in and I'm really looking forward to it. I've read some of Bradbury's short stories and was completely blown away by them, so I reckon this should be amazing.

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments It has some great reviews and the premise seems promising. After trying to trudge though 'The Sealed Letter' I'm hoping this will keep me hooked and happy!

Congratulations! When are you getting married? My 5th (!) wedding anniversary is on the 14th. We went to Bali for 3 weeks and the final Harry Potter was released while we were there so I got a copy and read it. Not sure what else I read. You've got some umm bizarre choices ;)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments Lol I like to think its an ecclectic mix! We get married on the 29th July eek. We have been together 7 and a half years and lived together for 6 years so not sure how much will change... Just alot to plan. Will be nice to chill and read!

Congratulations Aimee! Ohn and I've read Helter Skelter, it's an interesting read.

I've bought this one from Amazon recently

Some Kind of Fairy Tale by Graham Joyce it was a signed copy too, which was a nice surprise :) I've spoken to Graham Joyce in the past, he's a very nice guy. Read most of his books too and always been impressed. This one sounds very intriguing, just need to find a window in my reading diary! ... can't wait to start it.

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments Recieved my books today and did the happy book dance. I sniffed them and my OH told me I was like Lisa Simpson and a bit of a geek. I love getting new books!

Flicked quickly through the photographic part of Helter Skelter which was very interesting (if you're into looking into murderers psyche)

Thank you! Have heard only good things about that book & author. Hope you enjoy :)

Breige (breigeflynn) | 87 comments I bought I Heart London the other week and read it in a day or two. The other day I bought Cloud Atlas for 99p in Waterstones (it's the flipbooks version) as well as Three Men in a Float: Across England at 15 mph for 99p in Waterstones.

Last books I've borrowed from the library were Charlotte Street, Fuck It: The Ultimate Spiritual Way, The Night Circus and Kitchen Hero: Cooking on a Shoestring

Books I have bought Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2) by Deborah Harkness and
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury in preparation for August's read.

I also picked up At the Mountains of Madness and Other Tales of Terror by H.P. Lovecraft from the library. They had to request it from their archives and it smells musty!

I've just treated myself to some of the last few Charlaine Harris books I don't have:
Home Improvement Undead Edition by Charlaine Harris and Death's Excellent Vacation by Charlaine Harris for the two Sookie short stories I've not read yet.

The Aurora Teagarden Mysteries Omnibus 1 (Aurora Teagarden, #1-4) by Charlaine Harris , Dead Over Heels (Aurora Teagarden, #5) by Charlaine Harris , and A Fool and His Honey (Aurora Teagarden, #6) by Charlaine Harris because this is the only series of hers I haven't started, and I'm curious to see what it's like.

As you can imagine, I was really excited to read on Charlaine's blog that she's starting a new series. I honestly can't wait to see what she does next.

I've recently downloaded The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton this was one of our nominations for the Australasia read ... it looks just up my alley.

Oh and also this one We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson which is a bit of a gothic classic and it's been on my to-read list for ages. Hope to get round to them soon.

I've wanted to read some Shirley Jackson for ages, but I've just never found the time. Let me know what you think of it!

I just loaned Fevre Dream from the library. It seems they've had it for weeks but it didn't get sorted for some reason. Will get onto it when I finish The Notebook :)

I hope you enjoy it, Sam. I can't wait to here what you think of Joshua lol :)

I just bought 11 books from my amazon wishlist, because they've been there for ages. That's all but cleared it for now -- there are just three pre-orders still on it at the moment. I have to say, I've probably got enough books to keep me going for at least the next year or two now, so I'll definetly have to join in the TBR challenge again next year :)

Anyway, I got:

The Help
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
Fahrenheit 451
1Q84: Books 1 and 2
1Q84: Book Three
Bring up the Bodies
NW
Phantom
The Bat
Fallen in Love
The Prisoner of Heaven

Sarah you could've had my copy of the help. I got Gerald's Game by Stephen King last week so we can read together. I really need to get a move on with the notebook, haven't started Fevre Dream yet need to renew it :/ xx

aww, thank you Sam!. It was only a couple of pounds, though, so it doesn't matter. I've been AWOL again, as I've just started a new job. It seems to take me a couple of weeks to re-establish my free time/reading habits, but I think I'm there now. Anyway, feel free to send me a message when you fancy giving Gerald's Game a go.

I just bought:

The Twelve (The Passage, #2) by Justin Cronin , The Secret Of Crickley Hall by James Herbert , and Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan from Amazon. I've had a difficult couple of weeks at work, and so felt like I deserved a treat. It's not like I need any more books atm, but they do cheer me up lol

message 68: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments I have recently bought 'the woman who went to bed for a year' and 'happily ever after' for some light relief reading :)

I haven't read it yet. I want to reread The Passage first, as I don't really remember much of the detail. They're both pretty long books, and I'm not sure how closely they're going to tie in at this stage, but I feel I ought to familiarise myself with the first part of the story again!

I hadn't even realised it was the second book! I shall have a look for The Passage instead then, although I really need to finish one of the 5 I have on the go first.

I don't think I'd have realised if I didn't know it was supposed to be a trilogy. The sysnopsis/teaser thing on the back cover had me going "huh?" for a minute. That's why I don't think they're going to be all that much similar, but I expect I'll be proved wrong!

The Passage is well worth a read, from what I remember :)

I finally caved and bought Anno Dracula (Anno Dracula, #1) by Kim Newman and the first in Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton . They've both been on my wishlist for a while, but I've been trying to resist. Didn't succeed in the end, though :)

I'm on a bit of a sci-fi kick at the moment, so I treated myself to a couple of books from the British sci-fi award shortlist that looked intriguing: Intrusion by Ken MacLeod and Dark Eden by Chris Beckett

Karen | 120 comments Just bought The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon, #3) by Dan Brown (yes, a Dan Brown book!) as I read the first book in the Robert Langdon series ( Angels & Demons (Robert Langdon, #1) by Dan Brown ) and really enjoyed it. Not seen the film to The Da Vinci Code (Robert Langdon, #2) by Dan Brown , but the book has found its way onto my Kindle....
