We have a view of the Sydney Harbour bridge from our back verandah. The fire works were spectacular as always. HAPPY NEW YEAR Terminalcoffee.

janine | 7709 comments it's now 3:13 pm on december 31st and people here have been going crazy with the fireworks since the day before yesterday at the least. still there will be plenty left for tonight. i hope the skies are clear tonight (they are now) so i can enjoy it. i woke up tonight and in my half-awake state mistook the firework bangs for gunshots.

happy new year, gail!

Lets always use lurking incorrectly like this. I think this will be important.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'll be at my friend Raina's house. At a party! An actual New Year's Eve party! Yay! Usually, I'm on my couch eating chips by myself, watching the Space Needle go off. Quite often, I am sick, too.

But this year, I'll be playing games like Mafia. If I'm lucky, I'll get to kill other party guests. :)

This sounds kind of pervy.

Kristina, I hope you don't get stuck working late...

I need a nap or I'll never reach midnight. Never.

What kind of game is mafia?

message 167: by Jackie "the Librarian" (last edited Dec 31, 2010 03:23PM) (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Mafia is where a coordinator passes out playing cards, with certain face cards playing certain roles. If you get a black queen, you're in the Mafia, and your job is to kill townspeople. If you get a red jack, you're the doctor, I think, and you can pick someone to save each round. And one of the other cards is the policeman, and you can make guesses as to who the Mafia are.

Each round, everyone closes their eyes. Then the coordinator directs the Mafia to open their eyes, and decide who they're going to kill, without talking, and moving as little as possible, since if you move, the people with their eyes closed might hear you.

Then the Mafia closes their eyes, and the coordinator directs the police to open their eyes, and at that time the police can guess who it is.

And then the it's the doctor's turn, and they pick someone to save, if the Mafia tries to kill them.

Then everyone opens their eyes, and the coordinator says who got killed, with a little story explaining it, and then all the remaining players guess who the Mafia is.

Oh wow! Fun!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I was Mafia BOTH games at the last party, Sally.

The second time, I was much sneakier. They almost didn't catch me until everyone was dead. :)

2011 is sensational. I am starting the year very optimistic. It’s going to be a hot steamy day to start the year, the cicadas are going wild. The best kind of weather for spending time lounging by the pool sipping on cocktails. ☺

message 172: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 136 comments Thanks, RA. I'm hoping if all is calm to be able to sneak home a little early. We shall see.
