Rachel the Book Harlot Lisa Kay, how is the house coming along?

message 102: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (last edited Aug 14, 2012 01:01PM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Ugh. Do you really want to hear me complain, Rachel?

1. The varnish is killing me. I sneeze all the time and it is giving me a headache.
2. The plumbing is still giving me grief, but at least we've isolated the leak to the front yard. I need to find a specialist that has one of those things that can detect a leak from above ground... or dig up the whole yard!
3. My cabinet guy is on vacation and his apprentice left out my oven in the diagrams. Not a good sign, right? LOL!
4. I finally found time to go look at granite, but what I like and what matches is twice the price as other slabs. There I go again: Champagne appetite and beer pocketbook.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Okay, the contractors have been gone for about an hour. The compressor they are using to strip the kitchen cabinets just went off. Hmmm... It must have been on some sort of delay/interval timer. I just turned it off. Weird.

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments Is it starting to look nice?

Rachel the Book Harlot Lisa Kay, it sounds traumatizing!! Ugh! Did they give you an estimate as to when this will be finished?

message 106: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Every time I ask they say, "Three weeks." They said this again yesterday and I said, "Two weeks." They looked at me funny. I said, we had to move forward b/c it has been a month!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Gisela wrote: "Is it starting to look nice?"

Actually, it is, Gisela. I'm beginning to see the potential.

Rachel the Book Harlot I'm so sorry, Lisa Kay. I hope the work will be done soon. *hug*

message 109: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments It is getting there, Rachel. I keep telling myself how beautiful it will be when it is done.

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "Actually, it is, Gisela. I'm beginning to see the potential."

I'm sure it'll be a beautiful, then you can post pics and make us all insanely jealous of your new kitchen!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Man-oh-man-oh-man-man! We almost got rid of the leak today! The Leak Pro guy was here and fix tons of stuff. The little black arrow at the city meter is only moving an infinitesimal amount now. We think we've isolated it to the commode in the Master bath (which I had fixed!). However, now the sprinklers in the back yard don't work. He thinks someone (Lord only knows who) accidently cut the wires. **sigh** Maybe tomorrow!

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments At least you're getting closer, Lisa Kay!

message 113: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Oh you poor thing Lisa Kay! When it's not one thing, it's another... but it sounds like there's definite progress being made!

message 114: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I know! The good news is that the cost of the sprinklers, valves, & sprinkler pipes wasn't as costly as I was expecting and I LOVED having a mass of guys come in as a team and fix things!

However, my heating and air conditioning is another story. **sigh** A lot more money than I was budgeting.

message 115: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments And, of course, the granite I like is one of the most expensive. Nothing else looks good now. My mother always told me I had champagne appetite and beer pocket book! LOL!

Lol don't feel bad, I was always told the same thing by my mum too... :D

message 117: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) Me too, the most expensive thing on the menu, not planned just always seems to happen.

message 118: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments LOL! Thanks for making me feel better, Kit★ & ☼Sunny☼!!

message 119: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Or at least not alone. ☺

message 120: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Sorry I've been absent so much. I'm having major remodel problems. I have yet another LEAK! No, make that two, if you count the commode in the Master Bath. (Drat! Something I wasn't planning on replacing!) What a shock. (Total sarcasm inserted here.) Now the tub faucet in the upstairs bath is drip, drip, dripping! And won't stop.

Termite damage in the downstairs powder room is more extensive than anticipated, of course. The little buggers are still alive. I've stumped the termite people, who are meeting to discuss the next course of action: to treat before or after the new sub-floor is put in?

An outside piece of wood along the chimney has fungus damage, not termite damage, and therefore they need to remove more wood then first thought. Can't let that spread.

Still no finalized kitchen cabinet diagram for the granite guy to look at, not to mention the electrician. **sigh**

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments Wow Lisa.... I can't believe so much is going on for you. And MORE issues!?!?! You'd think with all those issues it would be cheaper to move ! I hope it gets better for ya. Been missing ya around here!

message 122: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Thanks, Hayley! Yes, I've heard that once you start something on remodeling, it just snowballs... however, this is ridiculous.

Nevertheless, there are things I have to be thankful for:

They were able to save the big window in the Master Bath that merges with the skylight. Yay! It is a custom window, which would have cost big bucks. Plus, it would have involved the roof, which I had repaired last year. (However, we discovered there was NO insulation on that wall! No wonder the room was so cold in winter!)

Also, repairing the sprinkler system cost less than I estimated.

And this morning we thought there was yet another leak in the pipes to the powder room sink; however, it was just at the wall. Yay!

Rachel the Book Harlot Wow, Lisa Kay, I'm so very sorry. I truly hope this all gets resolved soon so that you have your house back. I can't imagine what it must be like for you right now. *hug*

message 124: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Thanks, Rachel! You ladies have been great about letting me rant and rave and whine in this thread. **sigh** I try to be good and not complain... but sometimes it just gets to be too much.

message 125: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments Well that's good Lisa that some things aren't as bad as you thought they were. I hope it all comes together and turns out to be a huge success! How big is your home anyway?

message 126: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Just under 3,000 sq. ft.

message 127: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments It is so hard for me to get used to people saying it is "old" or something in it is set-up "old school" - because it was all new to me when I moved in 26 years ago! LOL!

message 128: by Hayley (last edited Aug 14, 2012 02:21PM) (new)

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments =). Well that's a mighty large home you have there :). And I think older homes sometimes have more character anyway :).

message 129: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments I think a 26 yr old house is new too!

Rant and rave away Lisa Kay. If it were me, I'd be tearing my hair out, so can completely understand!

message 130: by Laura (new)

Laura (lglovett) I think that house would be new too. I lived in a house built in 1905 when I lived in San Antonio. Now that is old.

message 131: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments True, I have to agree 26 years isn't old. Of course, that's my age so, I would consider myself young hehe. Most of the houses where I live were built before 1960!

message 132: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Thanks, ladies.

**hee hee** Too funny, Hayley!

message 133: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments i try :).

message 134: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Yeah, I had some guy come yesterday to give me an estimate/bid on new steel roll-up doors. I have beautiful built-in custom cabinets in the garage (that men in the neighborhood occasionally stop by to ogle) and he said, "We're going to have to cut them along the top to allow for the track." I just looked at him like he was crazy, took a deep breath, counted to ten, and said as calmly as I could, "I'm not cutting my cabinets. I'll put in a new wooden door before I do that."

What a nut!

message 135: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Can you believe I have another leak? Yup. It is a gusher, too. Man-oh-man! We turned the water off to that area, and the little arrow out at the meter stopped spinning COMPLETELY! So, maybe this time we have really, really found the last one. ....Nah! LOL!

message 136: by Elishia (new)

Elishia | 2620 comments Wow you're really not having much luck.

OMG it doesn't stop does it? When something goes everything else goes wrong with it.
What happened to the nasty little termites? Are they gone? We had the full treatment around our house today , they said in 3 weeks all of them will be dead!

message 138: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Yeah, L.E.A.K. is definitely a four-letter-word around here. LOL!

All those nasty little termites are gone! We've done a little more demolition and haven't found any. Glad yours are gone, too, Shosho!

message 139: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I have yet another leak! If you can believe it. After months of dealing with leak after leak, I thought that issue was finally resolved. Nope. When the drywall guys came today, they found one that looks like it involves the roof.

message 140: by Elishia (new)

Elishia | 2620 comments You really seem to be having terrible luck, hopefully this will be the last one.

message 141: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Really. Maybe I offended Poseidon, or something. Well, at least this one is up high and not on ground level. LOL!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Between November 5th and 8th I may be without Internet connection. ATT is switching me over to U-Verse on the 8th, but they may disconnect me on the 5th.

We'll see.

message 146: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Oh Anna!! I keep thinking of doing it... Good luck!!

message 147: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments We'll be tagging each other on the revolving door, Lisa Kay. I have my in-laws arriving on the 9th November. Staying for 3 weeks. I don't get much computer time when they are here. so I'll be here, but not consistently, unfortunately.

message 148: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Eep! Well, Gisela and Susan and Leif can handle it all, I'm sure. ☺

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments My phone and Internet will be down while AT&T converts me to U-Verse. They will be here in about a half hour. Don’t know how long they will take to do the job.
