Kadejah | 8 comments Choosing a Canadian author for this rationale, was very difficult. In my opinion its nearly impossible to hear or even find people mentioning anything about amazing Canadian authors. Nonetheless, I managed to find a Canadian author that I am interested in reading books from. The author I have chosen is Dionne Brand, she is well known for her novel, “What We All Long For.” Dionne Brand piqued my interest in several ways because I am impressed that she is a Canadian poet, writing from Toronto, and won a few awards for her novels. In my opinion, Canadian authors do not get much recognition when it comes to writing novels, therefore, when I distinguish between Dionne Brand and other Canadian authors, who have won various awards, it makes me feel more excited to read their novels. However, Dionne Brand seems to be the most relevant author for me to acknowledge at the moment because it is possible that I may be able to relate to her novel.

The novel “What We All Long For,” is Dionne Brand's third book she has written. What inspired me to want to the read this book especially, was the fact that this book has won “The Toronto Book Award,” and the “Harbourfront Festival Prize” I decided to read the synopsis of this novel, and I immediately came to the conclusion that this should be a great and impressive novel for me. Dionne Brand's novel “What We All Long For,” genres seems to be overall historical, suspense, and possibly a bit of romance. I have an over obsession for suspenseful and romantic books, therefore, by reading the synopsis, I strongly feel Dionne Brand has provided a novel for me under these two specific genres.
