I would probably contact the author and find out why she is making the change, she might have some reason we don't know about.

Perhaps the author has a pen name but thinks Goodreads needs a record of his real name? Seems odd, but he might think he is obligated to reveal it in the record. But the initials with punctuation is certainly necessary.

I'm not necessarily saying she has an acceptable reason, but there could be any number of reasons - including being unfamiliar with Goodreads policies - for which she's making the change.
Better to see why she thinks she's making the right change and help her realize why it's not right than to get into an editing war. ;)
