This looks like a good enough folder for this discussion.I haven't read the book, but I've seen it mentioned several times on Goodreads. Kat? Kimberly? How about either of you?
Phew! although i figured the worse that would happen would be the folder got moved or perhaps i would directed to the correct folder :)
I haven't read it but my best friend has and he adored it...in fact he's been harping at me to read it since he finished. From what I know its a good one, I borrowed it awhile but but never got a chance to read it since I was moving at the time. As for comparisons I'd compare it to
(by the same author),
not sure if you've read those, I haven't but they're on my tbr list.
The thing is there isn't much else to compare them too...except other books like them (which you haven't read) I wish I could help.
I was not impressed with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I *heart* Austin too much to see her words mangled. I think the fact that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter isn't a copy of a well loved book with vampire bits thrown in gives it a chance to be an intriguing book.
Please let me know what you think if you read it.
I'd never actually heard about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter until yesterday!I haven't read the other books along the same vein (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters & Little Vampire Women) either, much for the same reasons as Minty.
But it's a good point that as it's not a copy of a classic it might have more merits.
I haven't read that one but I have read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (By the same author) which was well written but I struggled with it to be honest, I think that is more to do with the fact that I am not a big fan of Jane Austin anyway so didn't really like the story.
I read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter a few months ago. In the beginning much of the book read like a biography of Lincoln, which I thought was very interesting, and I would forget about the vampires. Then they would show up. For about half the book I thought it was kind of clever, but then I got tired of the vampire premise. Like nothing bad has happened in the world that wasn't caused by vampires? I speed-read through the last half. Won't bother with P&P and Zombies.
Just wondering if anyone has read Ulysses. I downloaded the Librivox audio book and I couldn't get past the first chapter! The narrators appeared to be group of men who were "having fun" with the book. Their "fun" was too distracting and just irritated me. Maybe there is another free audio version out there? James Joyce is NOT a favorite of mine which is why I'd like the audio version to accompany me.
Judy wrote: "If you are determined to read Ulysses, April, perhaps setting it up as a buddy read might help you (and others) work your way through it. Sometimes, knowing you aren't reading it alone makes the di..."Very good idea. Not so sure right now how determined I am! :) I will keep this in mind!
