I thought so too :)

I think both should be fine. A way I normally judge it by, the book is not out in hardcover/paperback. And it is either self published or by an unknown ebook publisher, or published on amazon.

That help?

Finished with Soulless. Was surprised how much I enjoyed it considering the fact that I generally don't enjoy romance or vampires & werewolves!! Looking forward to the others in the series.

No 347 please.

I read the Eternal Husband by Fjodor Dostoyevsky for task 350 - Read a Russian themed novel, or set in Russia or Russian author.
It is set in Russia and written by a Russian author. not to sure what you mean by Russian themed but it is about adultery and alcoholism (not a major theme but ehy do drink a lot) and these are themes thatt occur a lot in Russian books.

Can I have task 483 please?

483 - Read a Greek themed novel, or set in Greece or a Greek author or a Greek main character. (can be ancient Greece)

(Donno why you keep getting this)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Just lucky I guess. *sighs*
You would think this being the 45th task I ask for that I would have gotten "Read Any Book" somewhere along the line. You could also call it a personal sacrifice. If I keep getting these kind of tasks other people will get the easier and more fun ones.
Ah well, I am sure I will have something somewhere in my personal library that will fit the bill.

Now you've said that I wonder if you haven't given me the hard and annoying tasks on purpose all along. :P

Don't worry! The hardest part in the task is that I have a lot of greek stuff but apparently no novels. So I went to my closest second hand store with a book department (which is less than 500m) and found a book that takes place on Crete. So all I have to do now is read it. :)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Lol I can't even cheat at monopoly! It would keep me up at night if I do anything like that :(

Whoohoo glad you got a book!

I always get confused between a novel and book, to me it is the same thing, just a fyi :)

message 1231: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Me neither!
Like in our public transportation a lot of people don't buy tickets for short rides. But even if I go for one stop I have to buy a ticket. If I don't I get really nervous and have these visions that they will catch me and I have to go to to the police station (which they never do). It is just not worth the trouble.

Well, you know me I follow tasks to the letter. That helps me with finding loopholes. :) Sometimes however it works against me. So novel is novel and not short stories or non fiction or plays or epic poems. These are allowed when the task asks for a book. No worries. I got a novel and I will read it. :)

Lauren Smith Lu (Sugar & Snark) wrote: "I always get confused between a novel and book, to me it is the same thing, just a fyi :)"

It's simple - a novel is fiction, (but one story from beginning to end, and not something like short stories) :) A book can be any kind of fiction or non-fiction.

message 1234: by Barbara (new)

A novel is always a book, but a book is not always a novel.

message 1235: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Yep, what Barbara said :)

Also, I've finished task 108 - read a book you started but didn't finish.

Can I have task 133 please?

message 1244: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Does it have to be an actual god(dess)? What about a creature that a group of people believe is a god, regardless of whether that's actually the case?

Don't want to ruin your idea, Lauren, but didn't you start that book before you got the task? (that is if you are talking about Kraken)

I think Lu means a character that actually does something?

message 1247: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith @Lu: A giant squid. It's dead, but some people believe it to be a god. It might actually turn out to be a god, I don't know. It's a weird book.

@Barbara: I am talking about Kraken, but are we not allowed to use book we've already started reading? I was only on about page 50 when I got the task.

message 1248: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I honestly have no idea.
I have never gotten a task for which I could use a book I had already started.

I'm going to have to say no to Kraken :(

message 1250: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Lu (Sugar & Snark) wrote: "I'm going to have to say no to Kraken :("

Is that because I already started it or because the kraken isn't a confirmed god, at least at this stage?

The task says it can be "about" a god or gods, so do they actually have to make an appearance? For example, if I were to read Christian fiction you could say that the book is about God, even if he isn't a character, and many people would argue that God doesn't actually exist. Kind of like the Kraken.
