Timing Issue in GG's
I've noticed another thing. In the very first episode, the Pilot, Season 1, we see Lorelai on her way to Luke's for some coffee. It's cold outside, it looks like late November or something, there's hardly any leaves on the trees and Lorelai and everyone else is wearing hats, scarves and winter jackets. But then after the pilot episode, it seems like there's almost late summer and the climate suddenly changes. everything is still green and warm. Is it just me or what? I dunno I just thought it looked a bit odd.

Yes that is the impression I was under too, but in the flashbaxck episode where Rory is asking if they are going to love there, they are dancing around at the Independence Inn, and she is an older child...

I was always under the impression that they lived at the Inn until they bought the house. Rory would have gone to school in Stars Hollow and have met Lane. But I had forgotten about the inconsistency in when they bought the house.

As I always understood it, Lorelai started working at the Inn when Rory was still a baby or a toddler - although I always figured she must have been 18 by then because of minor with child running away from home etc. - and then they lived in that garden shed at the Inn. Rory obviously would have gone to kindergarten and school in Stars Hollow but maybe Lorelai was not so much involved in town life. The dancing scene is definitely a deleted scene, I remember that also. I will watch out for this one and any comments regarding the house purchase as I watch the episodes.

I want to re-watch the show SO badly now!

i agree. i was under the impression that lorelai ran away when rory was a baby, lived in the shed and worked at the inn thanks to the nice owner of the Inn and then bought the house and moved into town and became active in the town when Rory was older. This is plausable because how else would Lorelai, who refused all of her parents wealth by running away with her illegitimate daughter, have been able to afford that gorgeous classic new england "manor"

i guess i just figured that since Rory went to school, her mother put her into other child related activities that were surrounding the school where she went. And i also got the sense that with Lorelai being a hardworking young single mom, the people of the town helped to raise her . . . almost as though they looked upon these two as their charity case or something like "it takes a village to raise a child" type attitude. I don't know. This is just what i assumed.
Maybe Lorelai involved Rory into all of this stuff when she was younger, but then that Lorelai herself didn't really start to participate in things until she was more settled and had actually moved into the village of Stars Hollow? Where is Amy SHerman-Palladino? Maybe we should ask her and try to pick her brain. lol.

One thing I don't understand is Luke's Diner. It seemed like the show went back and forth on it being open forever and Luke being super close to Lorelai and Rory always and then to where he opened it around the time Lorelai and Rory moved into the house. Anyone have any thoughts there?

yes, I agree. And didn't she get kind of mad at Luke when Lorelai and Luke started dating . . . or were dating. I feel like at one point when they were dating, Rory got mad at Luke cause he was acting like her father . . . and she was like, You're not my father just cause you're dating my mom!

I read somewhere that the Pilot was shot in Ontario, Canada and the rest of the episodes were shot in Calif. They probably had to bundle up to shoot the pilot - it's pretty cold up here in Canuck Country!! :)

Yes that's right - they talk about that in the special features. It's quite funny watching the pilot after you know that because the whole set looks different. Luke's looks totally different and Stars Hollow is not Stars Hollow at all!!

which one was Mia? I think I also remember that in the pilot episode they mention Lane's father, but then for the rest of the series, including her wedding, Lane's father is never mentioned, which I find odd, since Mrs. Kim is so strict about Lane and specifically with boys in general.

I always assumed there was no Mr Kim. But I quite often see things about how Lane has a father that presumably lives in the Kim house, but is never seen. Weird.

Yes you are right. The first Mia is played by Elizabeth Franz, and I can't find any info for the second Mia, but its definitely not the same person.

Also the setting changed... In the Pilot Luke s dinner is a free standing house and than his house was at the corner.
I ´ll never understand why they switched Luke´s...

I always thought that was weird about the early episode..."
But I´m glad that the producer decided to give him a more important character to play. Because what is Stars Hollow without crazy Kirk?:D

I've been rewatching the show and saw that the marriage jug argument with Dave happened in Season four, episode eight. But Lane doesn't have her first date with Zach until season five episode 7, so it doesn't happen quite so quickly. But I don't remember anything official mentioning that Lane and Dave broke up either. They must have just given up on the difficult long distance.
I think there was an official break up... can't remember when. But it's probably related to backstage issues -- the actor playing Dave not continuing his role, and they probably think rather than getting someone else to play Dave it'd be better to create a different storyline for Lane with Zach. And I'm glad they did, I loved Lane with Zach!

Elizabeth, that was said in Season 1, around the time when Lorelai was considering borrowing money from her parents for Rory's school.

Guess that means i will just have to watch it again!! Haha thank you

I know, right?! Just want i *didn't* want to have to do ;)

I just watched this scene -- it was an extra from the graduating from Chilton episode, last eppie of season 3. (Those Are The Strings, Pinocchio.)
That scene wasn't their first time at the inn, but a during the time they were already living there. Lorelei said they wouldn't live there forever -- present Lorelei said they lived there 10 years which supports the they moved there when Rory was a baby timeline.
Rory refers to the inn as their home, but not their new home.
I think the confusion is that young Lorelei has a line about Rory getting her own room, but that seems to be referring to her plans for their future and someday house, not saying the inn is their new place.
In short, Lorelei dreamed of a home of their own, Rory was hesitant to leave the only home she'd ever known, the inn.

I can't seem to figure out how long they have lived in Stars Hollow!
