Phyllis Montana-Leblanc | 2 comments I wrote "Not Just The Levees Broke" because after being featured in Spike Lee's HBO Documentary; "When The Levees Broke" I had so much more to say! I spoke with Spike about a poem I'd written the night before they were due to come out to the fema trailer we lived in (me and hubby) and after he ok'd it and I read it on film I knew there was more to share. So many things broke when those levees did. My family, even today, is living in another state. And they're there for good.My sister, Catherine purchased a new home, etc...my mom lives with her. So, that's why I had to write the book/memoir. There is so much more that the world doesn't know that happened and my story is just one of them. I give a first-hand account, minute by minute of what we survived. From the first time we lost power to the ceilings beginning to fall down around us until we had no choice but to run out into the storm. Whew! Even 3 years later it still hurts. 3 years later and the politicians still drag their feet with our (New Orleans Citizens) lives at stake. We don't have a hospital in my living area. The "clinics" are housed in trailers. How is one supposed to heal from something and they are still going into it? Heal thyself and P-R-A-Y.
