message 151: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Jess, I'm a reader/writer/pen monkey and still getting the hang of goodreads so I thought I'd come find some people my side fo the pond.

I live in Bath and love it. I do honestly think it's one of the most beautiful cities and can understand why Jane Austen found it difficult to write here.

I'm a relatively new published author with the small press Red Feather Writing and write in all sorts of genres, anything with some good adventure to it.

I love reading and I'm going back through some of the classics at the moment. I even managed to make it through the Count of Monte Cristo - not for the light reader.

Mostly I just like to be social wherever I can find people. Working at home writing all day can be a lonely business and people on computers in other places can make it feel less lonely.

Hang on. Two of us from Bath in one day? Must be the lit fest that is on at the moment. Lots of us writers in Bath though. There are worse places to live.

message 153: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Paul, that is quite the coincidence. I had forgotten the lit fest was on. Unfortuantely not doing anything in it this year. I've had the fortunate opportunity to hear one of my own pieces read out at a lit night a few years ago though, back before I had got something published. It was one of those moments that spurred me on through the struggle of finishing that first novel etc.

message 169: by Prudence (last edited Mar 09, 2012 09:41AM) (new)

Prudence MacLeod (prudencemacleod) Hi folks, my name is Prudence MacLeod. I am a spiritual seeker, dog trainer, official Reiki Master and Interior designer, who has turned her hand to writing. I am also an avid chess player, not a great one, but an avid one. I bake, I build, I knit, and I tell great stories.
I have roamed far and wide for over sixty years in this realm, and I have seen much; some I wish I had not, and a great deal that I would love to see again. Some days I feel like Bilbo Baggins, for I have been there and come back again. No, I haven't written a book about my wanderings, at least not yet, but much I have experienced, observed, learned, surmised, or imagined, is woven into the tales I have written.
I also spend way too much time reading fantasy, Y/A, Sci-fi, Urban Fantasy, etc. If it is printed I'll probably read it sooner or later.

Folks, if you take the time to write a review for me, please leave me a way to contact you so I can thank you properly. If you prefer to remain anonymous, then let me thank you right now. Thanks!!

It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence won't you come out to play?

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Thank you for the welcome everyone and Hi Prudence.

I do indeed have a Bath as well as live in Bath though I generally prefer showers. I get bored just laying in a Bath and I don't like to read while in one, I'm too clumsy.

Especially if you've got a Kindle. Books don't like water, but Kindles REALLY don't like it. :)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) | 112 comments I was really amused when I got my new Kindle to see a whole section in the guide on how to dry out the little beauties... lol!

BTW, I live in Spaxton, a little village just outside Bridgwater, and my team covers Bath and Chipping Sodbury. We do flood modelling and risk assessments. Aren't we lucky living in this part of the UK :) (smug gloat!)

message 190: by Jess (new)

Jess Mountifield | 165 comments Yeah Kindle and water are not a happy pair so I don't risk it. I love my kindle too much.

I do consider myself very lucky. I like to travel but I always look forward to coming home again with a place like Bath to come back to.

message 191: by Prudence (new)

Prudence MacLeod (prudencemacleod) Kindles can't swim? Who knew. :)

message 192: by J.R. (new)

J.R. Barker | 69 comments you have to get them a coat so that if they do fall in the water, they don't drown.

message 193: by Prudence (new)

Prudence MacLeod (prudencemacleod) Like a diver's wet suit? great idea. :)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Does the Kindle Fire go out if you drop it in water?

message 195: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) | 112 comments I've just taken my son down to stay with a friend in Plynouth for a few days. He's been in Canada for 6 years so he's happy to be home=UK and link up with friends again. I think Plymouth is a cracking city, but it's good to be home in my little village after just half a day away lol!

message 196: by Prudence (new)

Prudence MacLeod (prudencemacleod) Ah yes, there's no place like home.

message 197: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments As Granny Weatherwax said - there are lots of places like home but only one of them is where you live!

message 198: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) | 112 comments Now she and Nanny Ogg are forces to contend with. They don't need legislation for 'equal rites' lol!

J.R. Barker | 69 comments Prudence wrote: "Like a diver's wet suit? great idea. :)"

I suppose there's no reason it couldn't have a floatation device and a mirror, so you can semi submerge yourself and read in the mirror. I shall have to invent such a device forthwith!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'll be having a bath tonight - can you get it together in 2 and a half hours?
