I just got this collection of F&G classics for my P for Christmas. I am super-excited for her to open it because it has odd things, like the "Yam" song and other silly songs that are harder to find. It takes me back, though, to buy cds. I have already so embraced the music download sphere that buying a cd "feels" vintage.
You are definitely correct about the Gershwins and "Shall We Dance;" however, I just peeked at IMBd and didn't realize just how many pictures they scored or composed for even prior to "Shall We Dance." Legendary stuff like "The St. Louis Blues."
Although GG didn't write the song "St. Louis Blues," no matter how convinced I am that he actually did -- watch Baby Face with Stanwyck and tell me that St. Louis Blues doesn't sound like a derivative of Rhapsody.
