I started this book the other night, not very far into it yet though. Has anyone else started to read this book yet?

Almost done with the book. Should be done tonight with it, so I'll post my thoughts on it tomorrow most likely ^.^.

I'll wait and see what your thoughts are as I've already read it before. I'll try to be as objective as I can about it the first time I read it. And hopefully things don't devolve into a Peeta or Gale battle lol. Oh and I sent ya two messages Amaya. Had to break the first one in to two parts it was so long.

No prob, lmao somehow I figured one of our messages would have to get broken up into two parts at some point. At first it was hard to read hunger games because of the way it's written but once I got used to it it was fine. It annoyed me at first though because I kept reading certain parts wrong because of it, lol. Overall I thought the book was really good. (view spoiler)[Around the part where Katniss and Peeta got into the place they stayed in before the games is where I got used to the writing style and really started getting into the book. Before that it could of just been because I was sleepy though, not sure, lol. One thing that made me mad is that it never said in the book what Gale was about to say to Katniss before they took him away, where all he got out was "I". I'm guessing that will be in the second book. When Peeta announced his "feelings" for Katniss live on the air my jaw dropped. I felt bad for Katniss too with all of those people watching her for her response. Then the other ball dropped that the romance was to be faked. I felt bad for Peeta at the end of the book bc it seemed like Katniss was telling him she didn't care for him that way. Not sure if I'm for Katniss being with Gale or Peeta yet. I like both of their characters, though. What are your thoughts on that? Aside from the romance part of the book I thought the setting and games was well done. It sucked at the end when they tried changing the rules on Peeta and Katniss again, saying only one person from one district could win or whatever. (hide spoiler)]

I must have gotten so used to authors different writing styles that I totally don't recall having any difficulty reading this author at all. Your the second person that mentioned that in a thread. But I totally missed any difficulty lol. But overall I have to say the utopian idea was intriguing and I liked Prim and Gale right off the bat. Katniss wasn't really a character that grew on me but when it was all said and done I still felt that she was a rather reluctant hero in circumstances against her will. (view spoiler)[ Particularly when she had to look after herself and Prim while the mom was emotionally checked out. I like Peeta as a character as well, just wasn't that into as most other fans were as most see him as a shining star towards the end and Gale is uber evil and didn't like all the gamemakers being such dicks and switching stuff up on them. But you haven't seen nothing yet til you read the other two. I'll agree the game arena was done very cleverly. Although it reminded me of some of those movies I've skimmed past where its these people hunting down criminals in the wild, or these fugitives have to kill each other to survive and make it off this island. The killing is what I hate in regards to anybody real or not. And with children? Just breaks my heart. What you think of Haymitch? The jury is still out on how I feel about him. But Cinna was a true gem in that new world for Katniss. (hide spoiler)]

Lol, probably. I only started reading first person views towards the end of last year when I read the House of Night series. It was weird at first because I wasn't used to it but then it wasn't a big deal and now I like it. The Hunger Games was slightly different with the way they worded some things and I've never read a book like that until now. Prim is adorable and I liked Gale's character, thought they would of showed him more in the book to be honest. (view spoiler)[I liked Peeta but I don't think he shined so much that he stood out enough for me to say he should be with Katniss. The part of the story was pretty cool how he had given Katniss bread when she was little. It reminded me of another book I've read. I'm dying to read the other two, lol. I wanna order the second one but I'm holding off incase we end up at Walmart this week. It did! Something like Rambo or some other movie, lol. Yeah, that seriously was awful. I hated seeing the youngest one, Rue, die. That part was really sad. I'm a little unsure on Haymitch's motives at the moment. Part of the time I think he's a good guy and part of the time I think he's a bad guy but towards the end of the book it seems like he's a good guy. He's a bit funny but was also harsh. He's a character for sure (expression wise, not literally), lol. Cinna was really good with Katniss. At one point I thought there was gonna be some weird older-younger kind of crush he'd develop on her. I don't know how old he really is. His character is really nice. Hope he's in the next book too. He could come in handy being Katniss's ally and all. (hide spoiler)]

Then you should try reading Room. And the author writing it from a 5 year old little boy's perspective. Now that was a toughy for me at first til it eased out. But yet another sad story with that one too. Oh Gale sticks around a bit more so he will definitely be back. (view spoiler)[ Yea see I liked Peeta for that as well. It's just that some other readers I have seen posting in other threads. Think that was the first kindling of their shared love. And I just want to roll my eyes, because it was clearly a sign of Katniss being grateful yet leery of him when she took the bread. And it even reappeared a bit when Peeta stuck up for her when they were meeting with that games coordinator. As Katniss has never really had any one stick up for her and be supportive other than her dad and Gale. So again I get totally lost and a bit irked when I read that in those moments that was when Katniss was falling for him. Me thinks not. Hopefully they still have copies of the other two at wally world for ya. I think for the last several months they have had all 3 books there. Even the first book of a PNR series I quit a long time ago. I hated when Rue died as well. She was like another Prim to me. Ah yea, I wasn't too sure about Haymitch either but he is a clever one for sure. Haha yea I thought there would have been something more going on with Cinna and her as well. And in a way there is in the other books. But not what we first think. (hide spoiler)]

That one sounds like it would be hard to read considering it's from a 5 year old's point of view. Good to know Gale will still be around, haha. (view spoiler)[I think Katniss might like Peeta but I don't think she's in love with him. What I got from the first book when it ended is that she might like Peeta some, though possibly won't admit it to herself, but it seems like she might be in love with Gale... or open to the possibility of it at least because she was wondering what would happen had she opened the door to Gale in a "more than friends" kind of thing. I know right. Tomorrow I'll be at Target so I'm going to check there first. Rue would have made a really good character if she could have lived. Even if her and Prim became friends they probably would have been glued to each other, lol. Haha, I really need to get the rest of the books to find out what the heck is going on. (hide spoiler)]

Oh it is. And what makes it worse is that he was the product of a young kidnapped girl being raped and held captive in a shed for so many years. And once they were free it was so sad cause that shed was his whole world. He didn't know about other people and his grandparents. I tell ya, I was never so heart broken and hateful of adults as when I read that book.(view spoiler)[ Personally I thought she might have slowly began to like Peeta when she had to patch him up in the cave. Kind of in a way a little more than just being grateful for the bread and during the Games. But still not all awe inspiring like most think. And as for Gale I picked up right away that she felt a bond between herself and Gale through to shared experience of having to get food outside of the seam to get food for their families and that he had her back like her dad with teaching her how to survive. But in general though I think she was thinking about if she ever had to be forced into marrying someone. It would naturally be assumed it would be Gale as she has known him the longest. And kind of what I think Gale thought as well although his feelings for her seemed more genuine and it wouldn't be about force for him. But in general I forget which book it was in Katniss is not really for marrying anybody because she feels like that would mean creating more kids for the games. So in my opinion she didn't want to marry any one at all just to avoid that. And I'll stop right there before I give anything more away. That makes me think of The Girl Next Door (not the most recent one from a long while back). It's in a bit of an older setting and this young girl is kidnapped and tortured. There's a young boy who sees all of this and helps her. The movie was pretty draggy in parts but the actual plot of the whole film was really creepy and hit you kind of emotionally. If I'm not mistaken it was based on a book. (view spoiler)[Definitely thought she could have started liking Peeta too when she was patching him up, just not sure to what extent. I think it might of been the first book when she feels that way about marrying someone. So far I'm just getting started on Catching Fire and I feel bad for Katniss being stuck with things not really being the same between her and Gale, not really being able to talk to Peeta or Cinna, and having to stick to confiding in Haymitch about President Snow. I'm only up to the part when Peeta and Katniss first make their appearance in front of people when they fall in the snow together. (hide spoiler)]
