Here's the cover-link to _Practical Magic_:

Nina | 6069 comments There was a movie by the same name and believe or not it, too, was quite good. It's non-fiction. nina

This above line hould have been with another movie. Practical Magic was indeed an interesting book which I really liked but I truly hated the movie. nina

Nina | 6069 comments Was there a movie about Mrs. Polifax? It sounds so familiar. Also, sounds like I'd like it. nina

Good question, Nina. See the following web page: ====>
http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=...

It has links to:
1.The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (1999) (TV)
2.Mrs. Pollifax-Spy (1971)
3.Mrs. Pollifax (1998) (TV)

Unfortunately, Netflix doesn't carry them.

Mrs. Pollifax is played by Angela Lansbury (1999) and Rosalind Russell (1971).

Of course the movies are based on the "Mrs. Pollifax" books by Dorothy Gilman.
Below are cover-links to the book, _The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax_:

Nina | 6069 comments I had in my mind that Roz Russell play that part. Why doesn't Netflix carry them? Maybe I will ask. Thanks. I didn't read them but I do remember the character in the movie. Thanks for the info. At the beginning of our week on Monday we had wind chill at four degrees. Yesterday it was seventy one. NO wonder my husband was sick. He is better now. nina

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I'm sure you would enjoy the Mrs. Pollifax books. They're easy reads but lots of fun... especially if you like the armchair philosophy she dispenses as she goes through her adventures. Below are a links to a few of her books:
_The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax_
_The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax_
_Elusive Mrs. Pollifax_
_Mrs. Pollifax - Spy_

There are loads of them!

Glad your husband is better.

I heard about the book from my friends.

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4050 comments About Dan Brown, I read all four of his novels. Out of the four, Da Vinci and Angels were the better of them. I was disappointed in Digital Fortress and Deception Point.
Da Vinci Code was a complete rip off of Holy Blood, Holy Grail published in 1983.
I think Brown caused a sensation because of the subject matter, controversial. Still, it is only a novel, fiction.

Nina | 6069 comments I think I said this before but maybe it bears repeating here. The Da Vinci Code was one of our book club's selection and the consensus of opinion of the group: Everyone admitted it was sometimes a page turner none of us liked any of the characters and the writing left a lot to be desired..Still, like you say he did have a great following..nina

I wonder how Dan Brown got away with that.

_The Da Vinci Code_ was enough for me. I tried another book of Dan Brown's, _Angels & Demons_, but it was the same old idea of going from one episode to another until I got sick of it.

At first _The Da Vinci Code_ was interesting but it stretched out way too long for my taste. I got tired of the constant twists and turns. And all the spiritual talk about dogma seemed too far-fetched and long-winded, especially as I look back. Have to admit that the book did keep my attention for a while.

Nina, any time writers challenge the Catholic Church, they get a lot of attention. I think that was one of the reasons _The Da Vinci Code_ was read by so many people. It was really such a fantasy... and fantasy sells well, especially spiritual fantasy.

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4050 comments Brown got away with it because his was a novel. Baigent, Lincoln and Leigh's book was non-fiction, he used their research and made a novel out of it. Baigent, Lincoln and Leigh make no claims, they present what they found and leave it up the individual to interpret it.
Brown couldn't have done his novel without their book being published first. I don't know if they brought suit against him or not, or even if they have a case. But it's still blatantly taken from HBHG.

Oh, I see. Interesting the way Brown was able to do that.
I have to admit, he has a great imagination!
