"Teeny boppers" :P They're cute when they're out in the theatre for the 1st time with their friends "late at night" :) In less than 10 hrs I will be watching the hunger games!

A wise decision in case they slip things from the next books into the 1st movie. I hate when they do that but it's extremely possible :)

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 24 comments It is Friday!!! YAY!!! HG is out!! whoohoo can't wait to go see it.. :D

@gorfo they may be cute but annoying with all their giggles and talking when all u are trying to do is watch the damn movie!! And that is why I usually wait til movies come out on DVD to watch and enjoy them at home.. :D a lot more cheaply that way!! :D

Common Sandra, cut some slack to gorfo. and i think the movie is gonna be epic!!!
going to see it tomorrow morning!

AnaΣtaΣia | 1584 comments There is a thing you can do Sandra, if you sit in the 3rd row from the screen in the middle, (which is the best row cause you are as far from the screen so as not to get neck cramps and as near so as to ''get lost'' in the film), you will avoid all this giggling children who usually sit in the last rows cause they don't know any better... :)

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 24 comments lol.. I am I was just expressing what I thought.. It is nothing against Gorfo.. :D

I really hope the actors do them justice because it is an EPIC story.. But all I've heard is how awesome it is... so can't wait.. :D

That I have not tried I might do it with this film I am usually in the middle of the rows not too far up but not on the floor seats.. I will try ur advise.. thanks!! :D

@sandra : well as it's a opening week i simply don't have the luxury to go in evening (they charge double!!)

so Saturday morning works for me.

@Anastasia : i m gonna try your advise too.. i was thinking about last row, but now i think i'll follow your suit.

It was an enormous theatre! I sat right in the middle! There were mostly college kids at this midnight premiere. It was for the most part dead silent! I guess the teeny boppers weren't allowed out as much since it was afterall a school night :P

And no offense taken ;P Yes the 3rd row is the best to be extremely safe but only if you're in a smaller theatre! :)

really?in the morning is cheaper???that's cool!!!here, no matter the hour it is always the same....too expensive!!!grrrrr!!!
-yeah, I think that watching the film closer, for example in the 3rd row, you get so lost in it that it's like participating sometimes. And if it's 3D, it's simply amazing!!

@ SANDRA It took my breath away.

@Soul. I sometimes really didn't appreciate the cinematography. I feel like they were constantly rotating the camera and showing me the trees. It made me slightly dizzy but I tried to ignore it :P. They really played out the silences in that movie, they let the tension build without music which was very interesting to see.

Gorfo Alicia wrote: "I love how this book is about isnt just about some romance. Its about fighting to live and stay true to your self."

Yeah I think that's really interesting because at the end of the day it's amazing that Katniss wasn't ultimately changed by the games. She didn't really manifest that "kill or be killed" spirit that came about in all of the other participants!

message 125: by Soul, the Book Keeper (new) - rated it 5 stars

Soul (soulkeeper720) | 3773 comments Mod
@Gorfo : well that's exactly what i thought, but do you also think that the movie would make great sense to only those who read the book, others(like couple of friends i went with were cursing for first half hour, in later half hour at least they were watching.) simply weren't connected with it's depth i mean "Hunger Games" in general.

message 126: by Gorfo (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gorfo Soul wrote:/i>

Yeah I feel like this is one movie where they stayed so true to the novel that if you haven't read the novel it's kind of lost on you. I see how in that 1st half hr it would be hard to understand what exactly was going on, what was the significance.

AnaΣtaΣia | 1584 comments You are so right guys!!I think the camera was really fast and disorienting sometimes!!..and the fact that I had to explain what was happening for the first 20 minutes to a couple of friends who haven't read the book was nerve racking but at least they liked the film in the end...

message 128: by Sadeem (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sadeem (saddy_blue) | 26 comments I just started the book a couple of days ago. I am finding it really hard to put down (except for the parts of the day when I was feverish and couldn't really read anything),I am almost halfway through. It's a bit depressing (as are all dystopia books), but I like the way it was written. I think I'll finish it and head to the movies as soon as I can.

Oh are you sick? Feel better! Glad you have the Hunger Games to get you through! Yeah I feel like dystopian books definitely aren't the most...hopeful. Haha you do that! And be sure to comment about your view of the movie ;)

message 130: by Sadeem (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sadeem (saddy_blue) | 26 comments Thanks Gorfo, I had a bug that gave me a bit of a fever and just generally ran me down. A couple of days of sleep and Ibuprofen took care of it. Here's hoping it doesn't come back. Husband and I are going on a trip to New Orleans tomorrow, and although I am excited to visit, I am taking the book with me. I'll let you know when I get to the movie.

Veronica (verobot) | 5 comments I really liked the movie!!! I do with they would have done more with the "love" stuff if you know what i mean. and i'm not talking about romance...there was a bit more back and forth inner dialogue that you don't really grip in the end.

Chris I just finished the book for the second time and loved it even more. I'm seeing the movie this Friday with my nieces.

Yeah I thought that the "love" wasn't as played up as it could've been but I think that's part of the whole thing where Katniss actually is pretending and Peeta is actually in love, like maybe they were trying to be true to that plotline but it just kind of didn't work out as well on screen

Cait (cait2489) | 3 comments I've read the whole series and absolutely loved it! When I was first told about the concept of the series, I was very turned off by it. I enjoy reading distopia books because it pops the bubble of security just enough to question whether something similar could happen in our current society.

With regards to the movie - I think it was the best book-to-movie I've ever seen. Very little was cut out and the producers really seemed to give the respect due to the book and the ultimate message behind it.

Lesli Nelson (lesliann45) | 17 comments I haven't read the book The Hunger Games yet. I plan to, I heard it was great and the I was told the movie was great always.

Caedy Eries (karida) | 106 comments OMG!!!!!

Saw the movie tonight (in fact, just got home). LOVED IT! Cried when Rue died, much like in the book. Very well done from book to movie, though minor things got on my nerves but it's all good. STill absolutely LOVED it and I will own it...I also need to get my hands on a copy of the second and third books.

(for those I am accepting amazon gift cards simply because I'm cute and adorable)

I am finally done, and proud to report that I am totally hooked! I cannot wait to start book 2. Hopefully, I'll be able to go see the movie tomorrow. This isn't a very particularly wordy review, but I am not sure what to say yet, it is one of those few books that occupy your mind even when you've put it down and are doing something else. I don't get that from a lot of books

message 142: by Nicole (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nicole (nmm267) | 54 comments I thought the movie was fantastic, and very true to the books (with some minor changes, which I, for one, didn't care about). I think it definitely helped that Suzanne Collins co-wrote the screenplay; I wish JK Rowling had done the same for the HP movies!
I was completely satisfied as a fan of the books, and my fiance and mom really enjoyed it, too, without having read them. The only things I had to explain afterward were that Katniss was pandering for the cameras as far as the romance with Peeta went (they thought she was really into him at this point), and the significance of the Mockingjay symbol, which the movie didn't explain (maybe in the second?).
I really loved seeing the "behind-the-scenes" of the games - basically, every scene with Seneca Crane. And I loved that they showed the riots in 11...it's just a taste of what's to come!
The film makers took an amazing book and managed to make an amazing movie!

In an effort to consolidate I wasn't going to create one , I think it's fine to discuss it here to since it's fun to compare and contrast, but if you really feel strongly about it feel free to create a separate thread! :)

Yep she co-wrote the screenplay but I'm actually a little worried for the next movie because she's not writing the Catching Fire screenplay.

it's also not going to be the same director.

Melissa When I finished reading this book, my 1st thought was "What is all the hype about?" I thought it was a good read but not worth all the praise that I heard everyone give it. People were using terms like "awesome, best book ever, you absolutely have to read this"

It has an interesting story to it and it was easy to read. There was a good mix of action, drama and suspense to make me wonder what was going to happen next but I didn't feel it was an "awesome" book. I think I actually gave it a 3 star rating.

I actually enjoyed the 2nd book a lot more than the first, I really enjoyed that one! The 3rd book I didn't care very much for.

I enjoyed the movie, there were a few issues I had with the way they did some of the filming but think they held true to the story and it was very good. I would rather see what is actually happening than watch "the shaking camera" effect that was used whenever any real fighting came along.

Has it been confirmed that Suzanne Collins is not writing the screenplay? That's a bummer...
