aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) I started this today. I am full of anticipation! I've been reading the excitement in the reviews for a year. Never got to it. Now Gorfo, you gave me the push.

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 24 comments I've already read the book and am anxiously awaiting the movie..

I love the dynamic and intensity of this book and the next two as well..

For those who have never read the HG all I gotta say is you are going for the ride of your life!! HG truly gave me something to be thankful for..

Kat and Gale and Peeta just *sigh loved them.. My heart aches just remembering everything!! :D

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) I finished it today. The book is so exciting I couldn't put it down, but I had to see what would happen next. Katniss is a terrific character and I WILL read the trilogy! Thank you, Gorfo, for another great monthly read!

Yay! Glad you liked it! You finished reading the book before I could even reply to your first post! Favorite character?

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Picking a favorite is hard! Rue won my heart the most, though. For that reason, I found the ending tearful.

Gorfo April the Cheshire Meow wrote: "Picking a favorite is hard! Rue won my heart the most, though. For that reason, I found the ending tearful."

Oh yes! I really grew attached to Rue. I liked watching the relationship between Rue and Katniss blossom!

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 24 comments Rue made my heart ache so much.. I hated the ending of what happened.. It was very sad.. :D

Gorfo SANDRA wrote: "Rue made my heart ache so much.. I hated the ending of what happened.. It was very sad.. :D"

What did you think of Thrush?

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) He was written as the Beast to Rue's Beauty character. I thought we'd hear more about him, but we didn't. Instead, he served as a plot device, so I felt kinda let down that he wasn't a bigger (pun intended) presence. You meant the Thresh guy, right? I also thought Cato was interesting, but the Careers seemed the equivalent of high school football players and despite them being coerced victims, I think we were supposed to hate them for being privileged, or maybe that's left over baggage from my high school days. : )

I agree on both these comments -- I would like to have seen more of Thresh, and Cato was also interesting. Unless these characters are resurrected in the remaining books.... ? (Not impossible if you think of the strange & bizarre hounds dispatched by the Capitol...)

I was kind of confused about the hounds. That part freaked me out a little too much. I didn't read too closely!

Gorfo Toni wrote: "I thought it was just ok. It read like Twilight with better action."

Wayyyy better action than Twilight! I feel like this book really appeals to anybody who likes Action type movies!

Terry Soul wrote: "One whole day to go...

i m going to read one chapter per day! March read is epic!!!

hope everyone will follow one chapter per day, so we can get more out of the book .
Hunger Games ... <3 <3 <3"

I think one chapter a day is a great idea. I couldn't put hunger games down without constantly wanting to pick it up again. One of the better reads I'd had in a long time.
Soul wrote: "* To Nicole

Same here :)

but still i am going to follow "one chapter a day" plan. this way i'll ensure it's "Monthly read" status and it won't affect my regular reading queue.

Terry I loved reading The Hunger Games and thought that the first book was the best of the trilogy.
Maybe because everything was so new to me and it kept me for the most part guessing what could possibly happen next.
The characters are so likable ... not Snow ofcourse. As for the love triangle, it had its merit in the book but I was more into the sheer self preservation of Katniss and her sense of loyalty and justice she showed throughout. I actually teared up when Rue passed which blew me away.
The class division and the poverty of Panem, mixed with the exploits by the Capital left me numb. Snow is one of the meanest selfserving characters I think I have ever come across. Surprised no one wouldn't think of making him an Avox.
So glad this has been made into a movie so I get to do it all again :)

Brenda | 100 comments The Hunger Games reminds me of the movies "Battle Royale” and “The Running Man.” Similar in a lot of ways. Although one is ninth-grade students from a Japanese high school and the other is a game show starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Both tell stories of people forced into competing.

remind me who Thrush was.. I think I know, but I haven't re-read it.. I can't bring myself to have such a great heart ache again.. :""(

Absolutely! I think that all action fans are more or less waiting for this one. I know I am! I just hope they did a good job in making it cause the books were great and it would be a huge disappointment if the films weren't as such!

I'm so nervous for the film, I still have reserve my tickets or whatever it is I need to do but I am totally looking forward to it!

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 24 comments I can't wait to be able to see the movie like y'all I hope they made it as good as the books!!

By the looks of the trailer, it looks pretty good. Donald Sutherland as Snow is a great choice.

really? I can't wait!! :D I mean I had my issues on who they picked for the characters but if they can act and make me believe in them as the book than I will be happy.. :D

Caedy Eries (karida) | 106 comments OMG I love this book. It is the only one, as of right now, that I have read in the series, but I want more. I am desperately waiting for the movie release on the 23rd, though I might wait a couple of weeks before going to see it, but I will be going to see it.

This is definitely one book series that my roommate and I disagree on because of the whole, kids fighting to the death for survival type thing....but it is so very, very good and I am hooked much like everyone else that has read this series. I am currently waiting on Catching Fire to be delivered from the library, and then on to Mockingjay. I intend on making this the second series that I read from start to finish this year.

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 24 comments @Martha you won't be disappointed.. I read this series in literally 3 days or less. I loved it soo much! And I am glad u are hooked on the fever that is HG!!!

Caedy Eries (karida) | 106 comments @Sandra I already have a feeling I won't be disappointed. Looking for the second book while I am at the library.

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 24 comments @Martha I have it in pdf form if u want it... And I am absolutely sure u won't. If u want to discuss let me know!!! :D

I have a feeling that Katniss will become one of the 'most important literary characters of all time'. She's incredibly well written.

More specifically, she's awful. It's only because she's so real that one can actually like and relate to her. The only thing she cares about is creating a bubble of safety around her sister Prim (and Rue by proxy). Her single-mindedness makes her look down-right horrible next to Peeta's pureness, and at the same time heroic, when compared with the Capitol citizens.

Let me see where I stand on the hold for Catching Fire, and then we will talk :)

Patsy (milesavery) | 5 comments The Hunger Games I just picked up at the library.
I am going to have to read like mad since I have three more books to finish. Thought this would be fun.

Haha it makes me so happy to see that I've gotten everybody addicted to this series!

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Gorfo, you definitely the guru!

Yes! Victory! ;P

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 3 comments I love this series. I'm so happy everyone else is as obsessed with it as I am.

I've been kind of torn about whether or not I want to re-read the book before I go see the movie when it comes out. As much as I want to read it again, I'm afraid that if it's that fresh in my mind, I'll notice every single thing that they change in the movie and then I won't enjoy it as much...

Patsy (milesavery) | 5 comments I started this book yesterday and I really like it so far. It really makes me wonder how this is going to work out. You get attached to every main character
and so now I am wondering......
I don't want to know.

Yeah when I was reading it I really felt like one of the many people in the districts watching the games. It's sort of like the olympics, except that people actually die...

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 24 comments I agree with u guys u do get attached so when things get thick n heavy it is very very sad.. Man did I cry in that book.. :""(

Veronica (verobot) | 5 comments I'm reading it again too in celebration of the movie on Friday. I'm sure things will be different but I'm just curious to see how they capture the story. So far it appears they're going to do their best, but hey. I'm still excited...and I'm on board for the reading this month!!

Pantelis (tasseas) I didn't have my hopes up for this one, but it's (shockingly) a pure 5er: great characters, great plot, great attention to detail and some great kick-ass action. Thanks for the suggestion :-)

I'm so glad it overcame your expectations! :)

Yeah I'm not known for crying whilst reading ( movies are different... I've been banned from watching "i am Sam" by my husband lol) but when Rue died I couldnt help it. I just loved her in the book.

if you liked the first one Savva, I'm sure you're going to love the second! I would suggest a rushed visit to a bookstore. :)

Steven (tbones) | 236 comments Ok this was an awesome tile and now cause we read this one I've got to read the next 2...this group really sucks me into some good books. I do think it's funny that we have read 2 books that are putting our teens in some major super bad situations...Unwind didn't work out for this age group either.

oh yes! It looks like it's always a hard knock life to teens! So are you going to see the movie? And I would urge you to rush to the nearest library/ bookstore because the next book picks up right where this one leaves off!

Me either! I'm going to the midnight premiere! I'm so excited!

Steven (tbones) | 236 comments yeah we might go see it during my son's spring break in a few weeks if it's still out.

Gorfo Steven wrote: "yeah we might go see it during my son's spring break in a few weeks if it's still out."

Oh yeah it will probably be out until June! Like how harry potter was playing until January!

I,m waiting for the second & third book from our library. That will take over a month so many holds on the next 2 books.

It's coming out on Friday! I hope it's good I'm going to see it at midnight! (I know I've said this already but I'm just too excited!) Oh jeez I couldn't stand having to wait that long to finish up the series. I read the 1st and 2nd book in one day and then ended up having to wait 3 days to get the 3rd book and it was pretty painful
