Patricia Iles (patriciailes) | 3 comments I've read it a couple of times and I can't recall the title or author! It's an epic-length western, with the main character being a half-white, half-Indian orphan boy who is left on a doorstep in St. Louis. He's found and raised by a doctor and eventually grows up to be a (I apologize for the term, but it's in the book) hunchback. Joe moves west and does several jobs, etc. etc.

If I recall correctly, the author may have been British: it seems that many words were spelled in the Queen's English fashion. :-)

The cover had a buffalo skull, I think and was dark orange and red. If that helps.

Any ideas?
