That was a really smooth way of not giving out your age online
:)

M. 29. It was recommended to me by one of my students while I was doing my student teaching internship.

Sorry, out of curiosity: Who is in your profile picture?

message 107: by Sophie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sophie 13, but almost 14 :)

Jennifer 20 =] (A few months ago!). I love it, I think it can be read by adults and interpreted in a completely different way to how an 11 year old would read it, which is why it is a book that really does cross age barriers. My youngest sister is 9 with a reading age of 15 and usually she is allowed to read anything she picks up, but this one she isn't allowed till she's 12. I don't think the themes are appropriate for children below secondary school age- the violence is much more real than HP.

Kåiłeē Summer before 8th grade. So, 13.

19.
About the age-issue. I think a kid should read this when he want's to. Yes, I'm not a parent so I might me wrong but a person, kid knows when he want's to stop reading because it's too horrific or too violent. At least, I knew when to.
Give the kid a chance, because this book actually has a some valuable lessons in it.

message 111: by Kayla (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kayla 13! I could've read them a couple years earlier and still loved them though!

Rosa M. Middle-aged, but incredibly cool :)

Jennifer Emma, I don't think very young kids have the ability to learn the lessons in this book, which is why books have an age rating system the same as films, and this has a 'young adult' rating- 12+. Plenty of my friends watched Scream and Saw when they were really young, and they kept watching even though they were terrified, doesn't mean they should have! I don't think reading this book at 8 or 9 is the same as that, in fact with most kids it'll probably be fine, it's not that bad at all. BUT it is the type of book that is better to read when you're more mature and you have a better understanding of the topics- around 11 or 12+. I was also off the reading chart by the time I was 8, I was let loose on any book I wanted, and there were definitely some books that affected me in a bad way. Kinda wish they'd been vetted by a cool older sister first ;) (Btw to anyone confused, this is my second post =P)

Shiropa i wuz 11, almost 12.

message 116: by Joshua (new) - rated it 4 stars

Joshua I read it last year so I was 22 (Do I feel old LOL). I thought it was an enjoyable trilogy of books overall (book three was kind of boring in spots though).

message 117: by Lauren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lauren 11

Kelly 11

Samantha I was ten when my teacher recommended it to me. It was one of the first pieces of Dystopian that I read so it definitely left its mark.

message 120: by Leah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leah 13. I think they're good for like 6th grade and up, but no younger than like 11 or 10. For sure. And also, it would be kind of confusing for them, I'd think....

message 121: by Carol (new) - rated it 5 stars

Carol 60

message 122: by Leah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leah I think I've said this, but I was 12-13.

message 123: by Jools (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jools 36

message 124: by Jordyn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jordyn 13! One of the best books I've ever read, couldn't put it down!

message 125: by Leah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leah Me neither! My copy of The Hunger Games literally lays flat...I've read it 7 times in the past year and 5 months! :)

message 126: by Ziyue (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ziyue 12, just found out this series last year

message 127: by Jordyn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jordyn Haha wow! Have you read catching fire or Mockinjay?
Im about to read catching fire. Is it as good as hunger games?

message 128: by Leah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leah My English teacher introduced it to me.

message 129: by KaDee (new) - rated it 5 stars

KaDee I read up for a book report in 7th grade, so I was about 12.

Kristin I think I read the first one at 19. That was a few years ago before Hunger Games mania really took off.

message 131: by Jordyn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jordyn I had never even heard of these books till the movie so I read the hunger games and saw the movie. It was the best book ever! I finished it in one night because I couldn't put it down!

message 132: by Jenny (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jenny 39, then my 12 yr old read it right after me

Kristen I read them at about 10, but I was reading the Inheritance cycle in 3rd grade, so it might be too difficult for most kids that age.

Heather my freshman year of college, so 18. im 21 now

message 135: by Jordyn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jordyn i think 10 is a good age, i mean its not bad or anything. It's just a little violent i guess.

message 136: by Madai (new) - rated it 5 stars

Madai i read it this school year and im 14 right now. they told us to read it for school but i was gonna read it anyways before that

Danielle 11..when i was nearing the end of grade 4 i started to read the "teen" books :)

Danielle oh and i apsolutly adord it <3

message 139: by Zoe (new) - rated it 5 stars

Zoe I was 11. And I absolutely loved it! I read the first one in 2 days, the second one in 1 day and the third one in one or two days. Basically, I was in love and I remember staying up like all night reading Catching Fire. I was in 6th grade, and I agree that 11 or 12 is a good age as long as you are mature enough to handle it.

Harmony I was 29, i'm sure i would have eaten them up at 9!

Amanda (Gale's Chosen One) Potter I was 17 :)
When i first read it i liked it- but it took me a while to get into. Then i got to mockingjay and halfway through i stopped reading it.
I didn't have much knowledge of war and stuff like that. So i didn't get why stuff happened the way it did and didn't understand the characters actions and stuff.
A couple of months later i did my research on war and i got a better concept of the book and was able to understand the characters a lot better and the concept. Since then i've read the The Hunger Games 3 times, Catching fire about 5 times and Mockingjay twice. I really enjoy the series now and love it but it was just a slow start for me and took me a while to get into.
Now it's my 2nd favourite book series behind Harry Potter.

Kayla 20

message 146: by Psylk (new) - rated it 5 stars

Psylk I was 20. I loved all three of them! Soooo good.

★ Jess Am 16 now, was about 13 when I first read it. I think Catching Fire had just come out.

message 148: by Tracy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tracy I was 47 but I'm pretty sure I would have read this when I was 11 or 12. I was a blood-thirsty little creature. I remember being absolutely obsessed with witches and things like the inquisition and the Salem witch trials when I was about ten. I checked every book out of the library I could find and I still remember some of the torture devices used.

message 149: by Debbie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Debbie 55

I had never heard of it until all of the hype about the movie started. I don't think it had been written when I was in school. Good book.

message 150: by Joe (new) - rated it 4 stars

Joe I'm 70, and I recently read all 3 books. I enjoyed them all, especially the first one.
