We were eating breakfast at the hotel, I looked up and said "That's Cormac." Laura said, "no way; you're crazy". I went and snooped a little undetected and it definitely was him. Next thing I knew he was gone. 30 minute later there he was, I worked up the quick nerve to approach him and he was very pleasant. Very short conversation and he was outta there. No literature talk other than me saying I loved his writings. He asked my name, where I was from, etc. I wished him a good day and he said "have a nice holiday". Think I found the right balance of fanboy while still respecting his privacy. What are the dang odds!?!?
Yes, once I did go to a book signing here in Oxford at Square Books by Mary Karr for those of you who might not be to familiar with her works . Three memoirs date her childhood to her adult years struggling to overcome dysfunctional family care because of alcoholism in The Liars Club , Cherry was about her years dealing with more issues as a teenager , and her final memoir Lit , which does not necessarily mean literature ! She is one of my favorites in Southern memoir and poetry . But a friend of mine from Oxford got permission from our library to go and get Mary Karr's library book signed. Many Library's welcome it !! We certainly have many . Some of the most famous are under lock and key !!

This must have made a Great vacation trip into an "EPIC" one. What are the chances of meeting your favorite reclusive author?? You have some phenomenally good luck Josh!
Kirk.....it was epic, but Cattlemen's may have been the highlight (we stopped for lunch coming back through). Enjoyed it all the way around.
I'll have to regale you sometime with my stories of sharing ranching duties with my Dad and Uncle when I was a teenager. It was interesting to find you are a cattleman by nature and education!
