message 3002: by Lilly (new)

Lilly (arlyn85) I just finished Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead . I'm surprised by how much I liked it because I distinctly remember disliking it the last time I read it, three years ago. I guess some things just grow on you. I don't think I really appreciated all the complexities of the moroi/dhampir society last time I read it.

Just started reading The Year of the Great Seventh by Teresa Orts . I really hope it's good, seeing as it's really unknown. It sounds great though, and the reviews so far have been great.

Marie | 58 comments I'm reading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater and I don't really know what to think of it yet. At first, when it was the girl's perspective, I liked it but the boys's perspectives are making me so confuse. They all sounds the same and most of the times, I don't really understand what's it's going on and argh...

Laura Tims (lauratims) | 2 comments I'm reading Code Name Verity and I'm curious to know what other people thought about it! I really like it so far, but I have trouble following the dialogue sometimes/there are boring parts surprisingly often/there are lines that just completely confuse me. I love the voice though.

I'm relieve, I was starting to feel like I was the only one who felt that way. To be honest, it didn't really get better for me but the plot did pick up a little but in the end, that book was such a dissapointement. The plot never really grapped me and I didn't care for any characters.

I'm about to start Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling . I'm exited since it's the first time that I'll read Harry Potter in english.

Hi Jami! I thought the same thing when I first read CW Angel, but someone told me it got better in the second book so I kept reading and it really did :) and thank God for that because I really hated Will on the first book haha.

The Evolution is absolutely awesome! Really, I love it!
I've picked up Under the Never Sky again, after putting it down about a year ago. The story itself is good, but something is bothering me. I think it's the alternating POV's, but it's managed better when you get well into the book.

Hmmm, well I guess I'm going to add both those books to my ever growing and never shortening "to read" list. lol

Thanks!

message 3034: by Lilly (new)

Lilly (arlyn85) Finally finished The Year of the Great Seventh by Teresa Orts . Dreadful. I have no words for how awful this thing is. It's even worse than Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel , and that's saying something. I actually cleaned the entire apartment just to avoid reading this book. Someone please give me a book suggestion that renews my love for YA.

Luckily I found a link a few days ago that eased the pain a little bit: http://www.buzzfeed.com/harpercollins...

Gaby (a_duchessa_prince) I recently finished Earthbound by Aprilynne Pike. It was awesome! The next book I would like to start reading is True Courage by Dee Henderson, or any of the other books I have held at the library.

message 3045: by Marie (new)

Marie | 58 comments These past days, I read for the first time Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling and it was a really nice experience. It took me a while to get used to the writting style and to undertsand Hagrid (the way he talks in french translation was much easier to understand to me) and also to realize who was who (names aren't all the sames in the french translation) and get used to the ''wizzard'' vocabulary in english but in the end, it was great. I have to say however, that while I usually don't like translations in french and think that the people who did Harry Potter did an AMAZING job. I don't say this often but Harry Potter's translation is just as good as the original in my opinion.

I also read Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler and at first I loved it and loved the main character ( I related a lot to her) but then BAM!The main character became so annoying that I couldn't stand the book. She's one of the most selfish character I've read about.

Then, for the last book in my 2013 challenge (read 130 books/shorts story, graphic novels), I chose A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin . I was really scared but exited when I started it because, I wasn't a big fan of the tv show. I liked but I got bored after a few episoded and I was never able to get back into it (I felt lost because a lot of times had passed and I didn't remeber that much about what I had seen).
I was also scared that I wouldn't be able to get use to the writing style since it's an adult book and when I read the prologue I thought I wouldn't be able to get throught the book because I was so confused. I didn't undertsand what was going on, who was who....The writting was so descriptive... but then I read the first chapter and all my issues with the prologue were gone and I just couldn't stop reading! It's amazing.

I am glad that I've watch most of the tv show because it really help visualize the characters, the places and everything and I would probably be a little lost without it. I'll probably watch the rest of the tv shows before I read the other books ( I don't have the money to buy the big paperpacks editions that I love and I hate mass market), even if I know that thinks started to get a little (or a lot) different from the books in season 2 and 3. I still think it'll help me understand the books better.

Sofia Gabel (sofiadianagabel) | 2 comments I just finished reading Ender's Game again, although I'm not positive it's truly YA. I think it was promoted as YA back in the day, but it seemed like it's perhaps a crossover between YA and adult. Anyway, I really found the lack of descriptions somewhat annoying since most modern YA does have a lot more descriptions.
