Ashleylauren wrote: "I am reading A Court of Mist and Fury love it so far!"I'm reading it now and loving it too! I enjoyed A Court of Thorns and Roses, but I'm liking this one even more.
I just finished Sea of Stars by Amy Bartol. It's the second book in the series. I will not be finishing the series. I just started a book called "The Vengeful Half", the first book in 'The Hidden Lands' series by Jaclyn Dolamore. So far, so good.
Tessa wrote: "Currently reading The book thief by Markus Zusak and a collection of short stories called A tyranny of petticoats written by a bunch of historic fiction writers and a couple of ya writers like Mari..."Have you read any Ruta Sepetys books? She's an excellent historical fiction writer in my opinion. Between Shades of Gray and Salt to the Sea are simply perfect.
I'm listening to the audio book of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater and reading Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell.

"Is this similar to The Hunger Games?"
I'm kind of a slow reader, so I have yet to reach any major point in the book. But so far, not really. It does have some similar concepts, like : a game, where only one should survive. But the differences are so much that it didn't strike me as the same.
Hannah wrote: "All recommendations coming my way are welcome :) I'm so behind on my reading"Hi
I'm done reading Until dark, I highly recommend it. It's short though, hope you don't mind reading short stories
done reading Until dark. Until Dark. I still have a book hangover, can anyone please recommend something else.
I just finished reading Library of Souls (from the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children series) by Ransom Riggs, and now I have no idea what to read next!
Ashleylauren wrote: "I am reading A Court of Mist and Fury love it so far!"Hey I want to read that next, is it good? Could you tell me a thing or two why you like it?
Thanks <3
@Barbara Sorry your question might not be directed at me but I simply could not resist :D I am absolutely IN LOVE with this book series so far and it is in my top favourite books list :P I love this book because it has an amazing story to it and the characters. The characters. Sarah J Maas could completely change my POV on a character in under 2 minutes. Not even joking. This book is more of a new adult genre because there are some ahem ~steamy~ scenes going on but I still love it so much!!! I cannot possibly wait another year for the next book :( you should totally check it out happy reading!
Ashleylauren wrote: "I am reading A Court of Mist and Fury love it so far!"Just finished that yesterday, was so different from where I thought the first book was heading, but in the best ways possible. Can't wait for the next book!
I'm currently can't read anything.I need your help!!!
I've been thinking a lot about reading since the morning.
(In case you don't know, I'm a logical person. I like to do a lot of thinkings and I look for answers.)
Please. If you have answers, do let me know. It's been bothering me for quite a long time.
I used to be a kid who likes reading children picture books. I used to listen to Harry Potter audio book (voice: my mother. She read to me every night.) when I was young.
I used to flip through the pages, glance through the lines, without really reading.
In 2015, I decided to read, really read something, thinking that maybe I could become a reader. It's been a year and a half.
I think I fail.
I understand why people read one or two books a month. Truth is that I don't understand readers who spend their free time reading books...just for fun?
Why do you like reading novels? Is it because you can escape from the reality? Or is it because you can fantasize about the characters?
Why don't you like to hang out with real friends in your free time? Strolling around the blocks, watching movies, or just chatting?
I've read many books, but most of the time I didn't find them entertaining. I've read some popular books which everyone seems to at least like one of them, but I don't like any of them. (Cinder, The Selection, Doon, Shiver, The Raven Boys,Obsidian, Crown Of Midnight...)
Am I a sociopath?
I only truly like the books I read earlier. (Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Maze Runner...) What the heck is wrong with me?
If I don't care about the characters, should I read books?
When people asked me about OTP, my brain was blank. I don't care what their romance relationships are. They are fake. I can't put myself into the stories.
When I came across fictional boyfriend tag on Booktube, at first, I was excited. However, when I tried to pick my fictional boyfriends, it turned out that there was none.
Therefore, I tried to do a fictional girlfriend version. It turned out...still none.
The first question got me stuck...the most romantic...what does romantic mean?
The most badass...well, I can find a lot of candidates but I don't want them to be my bf/gf.
Reading books make me sort of find out that I am aromantic (?) since I can't stand the scenes in the books. Saying they're kissing is totally fine with me. Nonetheless, detailing about the kissing, touching... ...Please stop!
And I know that most of the books contain these things!
Should I give up reading? Am I ,again, a sociopath?
Please let me know what you think.
Zhye wrote: "Just started
today, fourth book in The Others series."Is this series good? I just got the first book from the library.
@RemiV, Wow. That was quite a rant, I'm impressed :)Let me start off by saying that I don't particularly enjoy kissing scenes in books, or in real life, either. I kind of feel like I'm almost intruding on the characters' lives and I feel wrong for reading or watching it. Also, I don't really fantasise about fictional characters, or real people for that matter. So I know how you feel when you say that you can't really understand the whole OTP thing :)
Why do I like reading? Personally, I just love the way books paint beautiful word pictures and describe things in a way that TV shows and movies can't reproduce. Reading also makes me surprisingly peaceful and just makes me feel... happy. For me, there's no better feeling than finding a book that you are unable to stop reading and that you can't resist staying up late at night just to finish another chapter :)
I find reading a book much, much easier if I like the main characters. If the characters in the story are stupid and stereotypical, I just get annoyed and find another novel to read. I like the characters to feel real and believable. Ones that make mistakes and have flaws, ones that feel human (or whatever species they are!).
I don't think you're a sociopath. Sociopaths are defined as having a personality disorder that manifests itself in extremely antisocial behaviour, so not connecting to fictional characters has nothing to do with that. So unless you actually run and hide every time someone tries to talk to you, I don't think you need to worry about being a sociopath.
I completely understand not being able to find a fictional boyfriend or girlfriend, and you don't need to have one. Fantasising about book characters isn't some ritual that you must complete in order to officially become a certified bookworm! It's totally okay and totally normal to be uninterested in fictional romance :)
I know that the majority of fictional books these days have some type of romance in them, and frankly it can be frustrating when you can't find a book that is romance-free. I get where you are coming from when you say that they are hard to find.
I have read a couple of books without romance in them, so you might enjoy them. The first series I recommend is the Ruby Redfort series by Lauren Child, which is a great mystery series about a teenage girl detective who solves crimes with her friend Clancy Crew. FRIEND, not boyfriend, just to clarify. The first book in the series is called Look Into My Eyes and there are currently 5 books, as the 6th book still isn't out yet. And so far, no romance between any of the main characters (I think!). So you should definitely check out that series if you are interested. They are some of my favourite books, along with PJ and HP :)
Another book series you might like is the Chronicles of Narnia. If you haven't already read those books, I definitely recommend them if you are a fantasy fan. They may have relationships in them (It's been so long since I read them and I can't really remember!), but I'm pretty sure there are no gross, unnecessary details when it comes to kissing.
I hope you enjoy those series's as much as I do, and I definitely don't think you should give up reading. I reckon you just need to find the right books for you, which I hope you do someday. Good luck and happy reading! :)

Hello Petitcroissant (what do you want me to call you),
you yourself did quite a rant as well. Thank you for helping :)
It's good to know that we have the same idea on OTP :D
I think I might have to take a break on reading. My summer vacation started on 25th of June. I've been forcing myself to read a book a day. So far, I've read 21 books. (I know. Number of days and number of books don't match. I have problem with math, LOL.) I think I read too many. I didn't enjoy the reading progress. That is probably the reason why I don't like the recent books I've read.
Oh! Detective novels! I love reading detective novels. I'll definitely love Ruby Redfort series. Thank you for recommend it to me!
I've read only The Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe & Prince Caspian. Both were read after watching movies, haha.
Thank you again Petitcroissant (how do I call you)
Happy reading and have a lovely day :)
You're welcome, RemiV (By the way, most people on here just call me Petit) :)I'm glad we have similar opinions too! I agree. I definitely think that taking a break from reading is very beneficial sometimes. I love reading more than anything (well, most things!) but sometimes you just need to do something else. Whatever happens, don't force yourself to read something if you don't want to. Reading should be something enjoyable, not a responsibility!Anyway, I hope you like the Ruby Redfort series, because I love it! Good luck and have a nice day! :)

I agree with you Petit
I love most books and read lots of them but I find that when I dont take a break the books slowly become more boring and i feel like im forcing myself to keep reading just because i'm in the middle of series but the sometimes it isn't always becoming tired but mabye that you just dislike the genre or just the Author/s in general

Hello Petit,
hehe. Just call me Remi. :D (RemiV sounds like a rapper's name, haha.)
Totally agree! I'm now taking a (possibly long) break.
After I read ruby redfort, I'll let you know what I think ~
