message 6809: by olga ✿ (new)

olga ✿ Brianna: I didn't like the first book and never finished it so I never read Crossed, but people say all the time that nothing happens in Crossed and it's just a boring book.

message 6811: by olga ✿ (new)

olga ✿ I'm still not done with it but I'm on page 300 and it's been really good so far. Xemerius is so much fun :) I think you should read it, lots of stuff happens

message 6812: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (iamvick) I'm currently reading
City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare

I've been slow abut starting this series. It's pretty good but nothing groundbreaking I'm finding. Still finding it an enjoyable experience though!

message 6813: by Patty (new)

Patty (pkellison) | 15 comments I'm reading the Relic Master series by Catherine Fisher. It's pretty good... but I keep returning to The Book of Jonah by December Nolan which is not like anything I've ever read and which blew my mind. I keep re-reading my favorite parts. It deals with some difficult and disturbing subject matter and might turn out to be controversial, but man, it is SO GOOD. I'm dying to talk to someone else who's read it and get some discussion going...

The Book of Jonah

That is a GREAT book-- one of my favorites of the genre in YEARS. I was disappointed with the following books in the trilogy, but didn't let that tarnish my memory of some really beautiful writing and great character/concepts.

Patty (pkellison) | 15 comments Giochima wrote: "hey ppl i just finished reading, "divergent" and it was great! my problem now is that im undecided on which series of Cassandra Clare read next, infernal devices vs mortal instruments?help!"

I actually loved both series! If you like Victorian/steampunk, you might read Infernal Devices first. It takes place first chronologically, though most of the Mortal Instruments series (which is longer) was written first. Mortal Instruments takes place in modern times.

I loved both series so much it's hard to rec one over the other. I also liked the book of short stories that was a companion to both series, The Bane Chronicles.

Enjoy!

I'm not exactly a giant Twilight fan, but the art in that graphic novel makes it worth considering.

Joyce Reading:
At the Water's Edge by Sara Gruen & Fire Study (Study, #3) by Maria V. Snyder . I've read Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder & Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder . The names of the books aren't that exciting, but the series is very good! I've read some other Maria V. Snyder books and they were really good too.

So far At the Water's Edge is pretty boring. The writing is very dry (page 23).

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 126 comments Joyce wrote: "So far At the Water's Edge is pretty boring. The writing is very dry (page 23). "

I feel like there has to be a good joke there about the writing of a book called "At the Water's Edge" being "dry", but I am just too sleepy to connect those dots.

I'm having a hard time finishing the first book but I'm dedicated... I bought all three Infernal Devices books and up to City of Glass with the Mortal Instruments. I figure the Mortal Instruments need a good timing to get started, it just takes awhile.
