I have a great husband and marriage, am totally committed to both and fall into this category of independence, too. Being independent and married are not mutually exclusive.

@Carol: I saw your comment, and thanks for taking the time to respond. It's amazing that not very women commented. The blog got plenty of views. My intention was to share the fact that there are many ways to be indepentent without being so much so that as women, we avoid relationships. It's one of the subject matters addressed in A Heart Not Easily Broken. My next blog will be feeling out the men to get their opinions on the matter...lol, if anyone will respond that is!

Good morning to all my wonderful friends and fellow authors! Hope your enjoying the holiday weekend. I am, but it's impossible to put my pen down! Apparently the characters of my future books are storming the castle and insisting I write something about them before going back to work on edits of my second novel.

Wow--lots of new bloggers! I'm looking forward to settling in later today and seeing what you have to say.
On my blog, Kick Back Moments, I made a "movie" using Windows 7. Experimenting in hopes that I can eventually make my own (simple) trailers for novels. It is so expensive to hire professionals to do this kind of thing. I'd love your thoughts. Maybe we need start a new discussion on book trailers.

By the way, the narrative section of Kick Back Moments is short today. I just finished the final edit of my novel before sending it to the printing press. The word bank in my brain is empty. So, let's go to the movies:

Today's post is about learning the difference between Showing and Telling in your writing. It was a concept that took a while for me to understand. My goal with this post was to make learning this as easy as possible. Tell me what you think!

Show don't Tell! It's one of the first rules you learn of writing, and often a bit confusing. Here's my take on learning the difference.

@Peggy and Ramona...Glad you ladies enjoyed the post. I am so proud of my husband. his contribution to the library and community is very important to us. Every time there is an event, all of us (me, 4 kids, and cousin) there to support him! In the photos you will see my son, age 17. He and his orchestra group played live orchestra music last fall at the library (he's in chamber orchestra, jazz band, and symphonic band)and wow'd the community. They've been asked to come back. Keeping events, music like this in schools and communities are a key part of keeping the kids out of the street and productive!

To MJ - Regarding your question, "How Important is Your Book Cover," read this partial review I recently received on my novel, "The Coach House." Based on it, I'm not sure how to answer your question. Apparently he didn't stop at the cover even though he didn't like it.

"I suggest you find a better cover. They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but it's the "eyecatching" cover that attracts the reader. But once I started [reading it] I couldn't stop. The words rolled off the page. I recommend the read to anyone looking for excellence in story-telling. Congratulations, Florence. But, seriously, that cover, it's so bland and lifeless, nothing like the story."

Well for starters, naked people would not fit the subject matter of your book. LOL...read the blurb, sounds interesting. The types of covers I was specifically referring to were mainly the ones that we love to read, but often cause readers to 'clutch their pearls' (lol, love that phase!). One comment on the blog stated that she sometimes turns away from books she'd like to read because she does most of her reading on the subway. She doesn't want people to look at naked people on the cover and wonder what she's reading. IMO, covers can still be eye catching without a couple being undressed. But even when using metaphors, they don't need to be bland or boring. I am for something that makes the reader wonder what the story is about. Color, objects, etc.

Based on the readers opinions, would you consider changing the books cover?
