Carol Brill (goodreadscomuser_carolbrill) Hi Mari, thanks for sharing the link, here's a copy of my post from your blog site
thought provoking, although even in these dispicable cases, I do not believe an eye for an eye is the solution

and p.s. Hunger Games trilolgy kept me turning pages and up a few nights too

Carol Brill (goodreadscomuser_carolbrill) Hi M.J., here's a copy of my comment also posted on your blog You say "expressive of a spirit of independence; self-confident; unconstrained: a free and independent citizen...where most independent women (those who feel there is no need for a man in their life or significant other"
I have a great husband and marriage, am totally committed to both and fall into this category of independence, too. Being independent and married are not mutually exclusive.

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments Good morning all!

@Carol: I saw your comment, and thanks for taking the time to respond. It's amazing that not very women commented. The blog got plenty of views. My intention was to share the fact that there are many ways to be indepentent without being so much so that as women, we avoid relationships. It's one of the subject matters addressed in A Heart Not Easily Broken. My next blog will be feeling out the men to get their opinions on the matter...lol, if anyone will respond that is!

Today I'm blogging about why I decided to write. Take a look ladies when you have time. As authors, we all personal stories that lead us to this wonderfully creative path. This is mine! http://thiswriterslife-mjkane.blogspo...

Carol Brill (goodreadscomuser_carolbrill) MJ, enjoyed your post. love the phrase tree book vs. e-books. that is new to me too.

Ute Carbone (widldwords) | 30 comments Didn't know about the tree-book e-book thing, MJ. Great post, Thanks

message 113: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments Glad you ladies enjoyed it. Finding a picture for the blog was enlightening. Apparently the tree book thing has been around. Saw a pic that had an e-reader hugging a tree and the tree hugging back. Funny cartoon!

Karen I write a semi-humorous "Thoughts on Motherhood" blog at www.karensnovels.com. One post compares which guy makes a good date vs. a good mate. For example: Pampers you when you're sick vs. Pampers the baby when she's wet. :) Hope you'll stop by.

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments Good morning to all my wonderful friends and fellow authors! Hope your enjoying the holiday weekend. I am, but it's impossible to put my pen down! Apparently the characters of my future books are storming the castle and insisting I write something about them before going back to work on edits of my second novel.

Just wanted to stop by and share the link to my Six Sentence Sunday post for the first book, A Heart Not Easily Broken. It's in full query mode so we'll see what happens. Until then....I'm keeping it moving! Enjoy!

Peggy Strack (peggymorehouse) | 96 comments Wow--lots of new bloggers! I'm looking forward to settling in later today and seeing what you have to say.
On my blog, Kick Back Moments, I made a "movie" using Windows 7. Experimenting in hopes that I can eventually make my own (simple) trailers for novels. It is so expensive to hire professionals to do this kind of thing. I'd love your thoughts. Maybe we need start a new discussion on book trailers.
Anyway, please check it out at http://pstrack.blogspot.com Thanks!

message 118: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments @Peggy, nice! I have yet to give that program a try. I'll get around to it one day! Good luck with the trailer too. I have friends (authors) who have done their own and seen good results. Have fun with it!

message 119: by Peggy (new)

Peggy Strack (peggymorehouse) | 96 comments M.j. ~ I'm checking out some trailers. If I keep it short and simple, I think I'll be set. You can buy great photos at Shutterstock for a reasonable price too. Glad to know you had friends who made their own too. Thanks! ~ Peggy

By the way, the narrative section of Kick Back Moments is short today. I just finished the final edit of my novel before sending it to the printing press. The word bank in my brain is empty. So, let's go to the movies:

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments LOL! Well Carol, the first chapter was pretty hot!

Hope everyone has recovered/rested from the three day weekend!

Here's a blog post that may interest you guys. As you know, I have two blogs, one The Butterfly Memoirs is about my book. The second, This Writer's Life...is about my journey as a writer and where I share things I've learned along the way. Today's post is about learning the difference between Showing and Telling in your writing. It was a concept that took a while for me to understand. My goal with this post was to make learning this as easy as possible. Tell me what you think!

Show don't Tell! It's one of the first rules you learn of writing, and often a bit confusing. Here's my take on learning the difference.

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments Welcome Bernadette!

Ladies, I have been a busy girl! I've got two blog posts up today on two different sites. The firs, on The Butterfly Memoirs tackles men's point of view of independent women. http://thebutterflymemoirs.blogspot.c...

The second is an article (more or less) about a local music producer in my community who gives free music production classes at our local library...and yes, he is my husband! http://thiswriterslife-mjkane.blogspo...

Hope you ladies enjoy and I look forward to reading your comments!

Peggy Strack (peggymorehouse) | 96 comments Hi MJ ~ Love the music post. I believe strongly in the importance of music in kids' (and adults') lives. In fact, it's a subplot in my soon to be released novel. Your husband must be an amazing man. Thank you for sharing. ~ Peggy

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments @Peggy and Ramona...Glad you ladies enjoyed the post. I am so proud of my husband. his contribution to the library and community is very important to us. Every time there is an event, all of us (me, 4 kids, and cousin) there to support him! In the photos you will see my son, age 17. He and his orchestra group played live orchestra music last fall at the library (he's in chamber orchestra, jazz band, and symphonic band)and wow'd the community. They've been asked to come back. Keeping events, music like this in schools and communities are a key part of keeping the kids out of the street and productive!

Going to check out your blog Ramona!

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments Good afternoon ladies!

Here's a blog post I think we all can relate too....book covers. Please check it out and leave your thoughts!

How Important Is Your Book Cover?
http://thiswriterslife-mjkane.blogspo...

message 148: by Florence (new)

Florence Osmund | 13 comments To MJ - Regarding your question, "How Important is Your Book Cover," read this partial review I recently received on my novel, "The Coach House." Based on it, I'm not sure how to answer your question. Apparently he didn't stop at the cover even though he didn't like it.

"I suggest you find a better cover. They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but it's the "eyecatching" cover that attracts the reader. But once I started [reading it] I couldn't stop. The words rolled off the page. I recommend the read to anyone looking for excellence in story-telling. Congratulations, Florence. But, seriously, that cover, it's so bland and lifeless, nothing like the story."

message 149: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments @Florence, thanks for sharing!

Well for starters, naked people would not fit the subject matter of your book. LOL...read the blurb, sounds interesting. The types of covers I was specifically referring to were mainly the ones that we love to read, but often cause readers to 'clutch their pearls' (lol, love that phase!). One comment on the blog stated that she sometimes turns away from books she'd like to read because she does most of her reading on the subway. She doesn't want people to look at naked people on the cover and wonder what she's reading. IMO, covers can still be eye catching without a couple being undressed. But even when using metaphors, they don't need to be bland or boring. I am for something that makes the reader wonder what the story is about. Color, objects, etc.

Based on the readers opinions, would you consider changing the books cover?

message 150: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Kane (mjkane) | 82 comments @Peggy, thanks for the vote! I was going for curiosity and intrigue. If nothing else, you'll pick it up, read the blub, and go from there.
