thought provoking, although even in these dispicable cases, I do not believe an eye for an eye is the solution
and p.s. Hunger Games trilolgy kept me turning pages and up a few nights too

I have a great husband and marriage, am totally committed to both and fall into this category of independence, too. Being independent and married are not mutually exclusive.

@Carol: I saw your comment, and thanks for taking the time to respond. It's amazing that not very women commented. The blog got plenty of views. My intention was to share the fact that there are many ways to be indepentent without being so much so that as women, we avoid relationships. It's one of the subject matters addressed in A Heart Not Easily Broken. My next blog will be feeling out the men to get their opinions on the matter...lol, if anyone will respond that is!
Today I'm blogging about why I decided to write. Take a look ladies when you have time. As authors, we all personal stories that lead us to this wonderfully creative path. This is mine! http://thiswriterslife-mjkane.blogspo...

Visit my blog today and get to know Mary Firmin, author of DEADLY PLEASURES. She tells about researching L.A.'s sex clubs (safely!) and much more, and she's giving away an eBook copy of her novel.

Just wanted to stop by and share the link to my Six Sentence Sunday post for the first book, A Heart Not Easily Broken. It's in full query mode so we'll see what happens. Until then....I'm keeping it moving! Enjoy!

On my blog, Kick Back Moments, I made a "movie" using Windows 7. Experimenting in hopes that I can eventually make my own (simple) trailers for novels. It is so expensive to hire professionals to do this kind of thing. I'd love your thoughts. Maybe we need start a new discussion on book trailers.
Anyway, please check it out at http://pstrack.blogspot.com Thanks!

By the way, the narrative section of Kick Back Moments is short today. I just finished the final edit of my novel before sending it to the printing press. The word bank in my brain is empty. So, let's go to the movies:

peggy, a hugh congratulations on finishing your final edit.
P.s. I did not see your video on your site. Did I miss it?

I am guessing sparks will fly. Carol

Hope everyone has recovered/rested from the three day weekend!
Here's a blog post that may interest you guys. As you know, I have two blogs, one The Butterfly Memoirs is about my book. The second, This Writer's Life...is about my journey as a writer and where I share things I've learned along the way. Today's post is about learning the difference between Showing and Telling in your writing. It was a concept that took a while for me to understand. My goal with this post was to make learning this as easy as possible. Tell me what you think!
Show don't Tell! It's one of the first rules you learn of writing, and often a bit confusing. Here's my take on learning the difference.

I have really enjoyed reading everyone's blogs.

Show vs. tell was a struggle for me, too. It is often about finding that very specific detail, that paints a world. carol

Hi Florence ~ Your website is great--lots of helpful information. I encourage others to check it out. ~ Peggy

Ladies, I have been a busy girl! I've got two blog posts up today on two different sites. The firs, on The Butterfly Memoirs tackles men's point of view of independent women. http://thebutterflymemoirs.blogspot.c...
The second is an article (more or less) about a local music producer in my community who gives free music production classes at our local library...and yes, he is my husband! http://thiswriterslife-mjkane.blogspo...
Hope you ladies enjoy and I look forward to reading your comments!

Going to check out your blog Ramona!

Thanks for sharing the video, Barbara. A great way to start my Monday.

Here's a blog post I think we all can relate too....book covers. Please check it out and leave your thoughts!
How Important Is Your Book Cover?
http://thiswriterslife-mjkane.blogspo...

"I suggest you find a better cover. They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but it's the "eyecatching" cover that attracts the reader. But once I started [reading it] I couldn't stop. The words rolled off the page. I recommend the read to anyone looking for excellence in story-telling. Congratulations, Florence. But, seriously, that cover, it's so bland and lifeless, nothing like the story."

Well for starters, naked people would not fit the subject matter of your book. LOL...read the blurb, sounds interesting. The types of covers I was specifically referring to were mainly the ones that we love to read, but often cause readers to 'clutch their pearls' (lol, love that phase!). One comment on the blog stated that she sometimes turns away from books she'd like to read because she does most of her reading on the subway. She doesn't want people to look at naked people on the cover and wonder what she's reading. IMO, covers can still be eye catching without a couple being undressed. But even when using metaphors, they don't need to be bland or boring. I am for something that makes the reader wonder what the story is about. Color, objects, etc.
Based on the readers opinions, would you consider changing the books cover?
