Hi, just joining a few groups, I've been ambling about on Goodreads for a while now but still finding my way.

A bit about me:

Name: Helen
Favourite Books: Anything by CJ Cherryh, Orson Scott Card or Terry Pratchett. Just getting into newer YA/Steampunk authors writers like Cassandra Clare
Favourite Genres: Fantasy, space opera, stuff that makes me laugh out loud. On the rare occasion all three come together I'm as happy as a pig in muck.
Favourite TV shows: Stargate, Sanctuary, Firefly - and New Tricks (a UK drama about a team of clapped out, grumpy ex-policemen following up cold cases and annoying their lady boss. Trust me, it's worth watching!)
Favourite Movies: The Fifth Element, A Matter of Life and Death, Rat Race
Favourite Food: Pretty much anything, as long as it doesn't involve brussels sprouts
Day Job: Writing (but will shortly have to supplement it once more with a paying job)
Hobbies: when not reading or writing, I walk, entertain my dogs and am condescended to by my cats
Other: Volunteering with the MS Society and The Publisher's Association as a Schools Publishing Ambassador. If you're a teacher or student near Guildford, Surrey UK who wants to be a part of a free after school publishing club, shout out!

My all time favourite books are - like many other people - the Harry Potter books. My favourite out of this series is the Half Blood Prince followed by The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Next to reading my hobbies include travelling and baking.

Like all of you, I am an avid and voracious reader. My favorite genre's are fantasy (specifically fairy tales/folktales/mythology), science-fiction, historical fiction, and contemporary, as well as a fair amount of graphic novels. While I read throughout all age demographics, I've always had a preference for children's and YA.

My favorite book is probably a tie between Matilda or Ella Enchanted, and my favorite authors (currently) I would say are Sarah J Maas and Gail Carson Levine.

I'm at the end of my A-levels, I am HATING it ! Cannot wait to be finished, hoping to get an apprenticeship in painting and decorating ! I really love reading, at the moment YA, especially series.

My favourite YA are I'll Give You the Sun, Harry Potter (which I am rereading this year !) and To All the Boys I've Loved Before and the sequel... I did love the Raven Cycle too but it has gone down A LOT in my estimation with my reread, which I am sad about :-(

I also LOVE Donna Tartt (The Secret History and The Goldfinch) ... Sharp Objects and probably ANYTHING by Gillian Flynn, Wuthering Heights (though NOT as a romance!) and Pride and Prejudice.

I really don't get on much with poetry haha !

I love the Book Thief, such an amazing book. And the narrator being Death, I thought that was so unique. And the ending so tragic! I don't know who many times I cried reading it! I also just love The Messenger which is also by Marcus Zusak.
