message 4258: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Peters (andrewjpeters) Hi Everyone!

Happy to find this group. I'm a YA reader and a YA author. This looks like a great place to interact in that community!

Within YA, I lean toward fantasy titles. The Harry Potter series is one of my favorites, and I'm also a fan of The Ranger's Apprentice series, among others. LGBT YA is a close second choice for me, and some of my favorite authors in that arena are Peter Cameron and David Levithan.

I grew up in the 80s when YA was sort of in its infancy, and it's been great to watch the genre explode with so many great stories about young adults. Looking forward to the discussions and recs!

message 4259: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 3 comments Hi!

Julian.Carlo | 1 comments Hi! Im Julian, and I love fantasy especially where there's a lot of fighting involved and how relationships tangle into conflicts like who's protecting who, who hates who, etc etc. I am inlove with The mortal instruments series, TMI not so much but i still love it and beyonders series (has anyone heard of that?) well obviously I love cassandra clare, brandon mull, rick riordan? yeah I guess.

message 4261: by Elm (new)

Elm Hi, I'm Elm - well my name's not ACTUALLY Elm, but it's what I go by on the internet :) I'm 15 and come from the UK, and I adore YA to a scary degree. I love YA romances (because I'm stereotypical haha) and fantasy; historical Ya is also great. You know what - I'll read anything as long as it sounds interesting. I've recently got back into Goodreads - it's a bit overwhelming, but I'll manage.

message 4262: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Hi everyone!
I'm Jun, and I'm a university student from Italy. I really enjoy YA novels, even though it's sometimes difficoult to find one that doesn't use the same tropes that we all read about a thousand times. I'm also a writer, and I'm currently working on an adventure book that will soon be finished.
My favourite YA author is probably Cassandra Clare, though I also love Maggie Stiefvater and the classics like the Harry Potter saga :)

Simon Brading (simon_brading) | 7 comments Hi all!
I'm Simon, a Brit lucky enough to live in sunny Barcelona. I'm new to goodreads and new to being an author.
I really don't know why it took me so long to join - I read two or three books a week... Loving Sarah J Maas right now and rereading the Harry Potter books for the fourth time!

I'm trying to write a series of YA books that live up to the books that I love from the genre, anybody who wants a copy of the first couple of books in return for a review let me know!

message 4289: by [deleted user] (new)

A brit living in barcelona and writing YA sounds interesting :D

message 4293: by Erni (new)

Erni (ernibidin) Hi everyone, I'm Erni (fyi i'm a female, most people wuld've assumed Erni is a man's name lol). I read all kinds of books but YA is my favourite genre although I am no longer a young adult :P. Currently I'm reading the final installment of The Lunar Chronicles, which is Winter, and I guess my favourite books are Animal Farm and 1984. I just love George Orwell's books. For YA, I like contemporary YA stuff, and most recently I love Made You Up by Francesca Zappia. Please recommend more books to me :)

message 4294: by Emma (new)

Emma Woods (theemmawoods) | 3 comments Hello Erni! George Orwell is how I began my relationship with Dystopia too! I loved 1984... It was my first read (other than Poe) that didn't end with a "happy" ending.... Went on to read Lord of the Flies and The Giver. My professor hated my theoretical ending for the open ended story, because it wasn't all rainbows and music. ;) Happy reading!

message 4295: by Franzi (new)

Franzi Hi, everybody! I'm Franzi. I read mostly YA and Fantasy but in general I'd read anything as long as it has an intriguing summary!

My favourite books are the Harry Potter books by JKR and The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater!
I'm excited to make friends on here!

message 4299: by Carissa (new)

Carissa (mistnshadow) | 1 comments Hey Everyone.
I have been part of this group for I awhile but I am only just now beginning to use this group. I feel that despite the fact that I have been part of this group for a while I should begin with an introduction of myself.
Hey, I am Carissa, although at the moment alot of people have begun to call me Clarissa. (That does not seem like much difference, but when Clarissa appears on your group power point rather than Carissa, it becomes a bigger difference.)
I love reading hence the fact that I am part of Goodreads and this group. I feel that previous statement was kind of a given.
I love the author John Flanagan, T.C. Southewell, and Scott Lynch. I do realize that two of the authors are not young adult and that the third one lies between children and Young Adult. This is a result of me finding the writing of the authors amazing. I really enjoy John Flanagan's humor. Scott Lynch is an amazing writer, and T. C. Southwell does an amazing job of characterization. Just because I do not have many (or any depending on who you ask) Young Adult authors does not mean I do not enjoy young adult books. I do.
My favorite books is either The Lies of Locke Lamora or Six of Crows.
