C.A. Pack (capack) Library of Illumination by Carol Pack
Hi, I'm Carol and I'm a YA writer. I'm working on a series of YA fantasy novelettes, The Library of Illumination, and just posted the first episode, Johanna's Story, on Goodreads for a free read. I enjoy reading YA as much as writing it, and see a lot of great recommendations for books here, so I think I'm going to be pretty busy over the next few months, reading and writing.

message 2129: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Costa Viglucci (patcostaviglucci) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Pat aka Patricia Costa Viglucci. I write in several different genres and the YA authors I am most familiar with are Vivian Vande Velde, Mary Jane Auch, Linda Sue Park,Marsha Hayles--all of whom are Rochester area writer friends.I have written several YAs myself and the most recent, "Beware the Ghost Riders!" is free today,Aug 3, through Monday, August 5. All of my books start with setting first and I "see" characters populating the terrain. This most recent,a mystery/fantasy is set in the U.K. where I visited family in Hyde near Derbyshire and was fascinated by the interest the Brits have in their Roman history. One of the places we visited was Buxton, once a Roman spa second only to Bath. I also loved hearing about the Roman coins farmers are still digging up each spring and that some residents claim to have seen the ghosts of Roman horse soldiers from 80 A.D. Hyde is also where the notorious friendly doctor killed some 300 patients, some of whom were friends of our cousins. With all this material, "Beware the Ghost Riders!" practically wrote itself. All I needed was a teen sleuth, Justin, from NY and his handsome history professor uncle to fly to England and help hunt for a missing cousin who may be another of the doctor's victims!

message 2137: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (thestarlightshelves) Hi everyone! My name is Joanne, and I'm 22, so my list of YA books I like is crazy long since I've been reading them for at least 10 years. But I'll try to narrow it down. Recently I've been loving Cassandra Clare's books (Who else is pumped for the CoB movie in just a couple of weeks?!) and the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor. I suppose I like mostly fantasy and dystopian fiction, but I do also really like books by John Green and David Levithan.

Anyway, happy to join the group. I'll be around a lot, hopefully!

carol (carocaro) | 4 comments Hi everyone, my name is above and lower case initial is deliberate, initially to differentiate from all the Carol's with capitals.
Despite my age, (and I read many genres of books), but still love many of the children's and YA books from my past, so some will be classed as classics now. Through my own children now YA's, I get to hear and read some work by new contemporary writers too. I was a teacher of literacy, who underwent a career change into copy editing. My work gives me the best of both worlds. It introduces me to new writers and their work, and through these writers I also get to hear of other good books to read. I love books with fantasy, quest, good over evil, historical and paranormal story lines. I will be reading and picking up hints for books to read and maybe mentioning any good reads I find too.

Wanda Paryla (wandasparyla) | 6 comments Hi All,
I'm Wanda Paryla, and the author of the YA/new adult novel, Someday Always Comes.

I love to read anything! I like most genres...not too big on horror unless it's supernatural. I don't like stuff like...well, think Saw. I love vampire or ghost related stories the most, and definitely a good mystery.

I've recently started reviewing indie authors & those from small publishers on my Wordpress blog.

My all-time favorite novel is still Gone with the Wind. And, I don't care what anyone else thinks, I did like those "Twilight" books!
