Brian Knight (brian_knight) Hi all!

I'm a reader and writer from Washington State. Mostly I read horror and crime, but Harry Potter turned me into a YA fantasy fan.

My favorite YA authors are J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins, and Neil Gaiman.

Just like any other genre, I don't like a lot of what's out there, so any recommendation from you folks in the know would be appreciated :)

Brian Knight

Kassandra (kassandrahart) | 1 comments Hey my names Kassandra or Kassie for short. I love to read obviously! I read a bit of everything really but I usually go fo YA, paranormal romance and just romance. I cant say I have a favourite book cause theres just to many I love. My favourite authors are Sarah Dessen, Karen Marie Moning, Gena Showalter, John Green, Richelle Mead, Cassandra Clare and probably more that have escaped me right now. I cant wait to find great new books to read!

message 1606: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (enriana) My name is Ariel, I've loved reading as long as I can remember, but it really grabbed hold of me when I lived next door to a Barnes & Noble for a couple years.

Although I'm out of the general age range (I'm 21), I still like to keep updated with YA books; they're what I started with, and the genre has exploded. Whenever I'm in a bookstore and see someone looking hesitantly at the YA (now "teen") shelves, I'll offer to help. It's great fun!

I'm not sure I can pick a favorite book, but the latest YA books that really rocked my socks: The Fault in Our Stars (Mr. Green just gets better and better!), Anna Dressed in Blood (haven't been able to finish the sequel, can't get into it) by Kendall Blake, A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheeman. Those are the three I thought of as I glanced through Calibre. Ms. Cashore's "Bitterblue" was lovely as well, though I didn't enjoy it as much as its predecessors. Maggie Stiefvater makes me like her more each book; both The Raven Boys & The Scorpio Races were fantastic reads.

I'll read essentially any genre - though sci-fi and dystopian books have to be better than average to keep my interest - with a soft spot towards fantasy.

My least favourite things about the genre of late has been all of the "instalove" romances and series (especially first books) that make you wait a few books before getting into the good stuff.

This is one of my first Goodread groups, I hope I'm doing this right. :)

Other Things I Love:
Pirates of the Caribbean
Most movies based on books (except for Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief; that was terrible)

Hello. My name is Kaitlyn. I recently self-published my own YA book Avenging Amethyst (Immortal Eyes #1) by Kaitlyn Price

I pretty much only read YA books with the exception of a few authors. I can't say I have just one favorite author, though.

Currently, I'm finishing up reading the Fallen series by Lauren Kate and have a huge stack of other YA books to tackle after that.

YA is my obsession for some years, Harry Potter is my biggest obsession for 12 year, but I also love theatre books, latin classics, and I'm also a huge fan of english literature between 16th and 19th century :)

message 1622: by Adelma (last edited Jan 24, 2013 10:23PM) (new)

Adelma (delms) Hi, my name is Adelma! YA is the majority of what I read-- meaning that it is my love. My favorite book is Divergent by Veronica Roth. Man, that took sometime and a bit of sacrifice to pick! Anyway, reading has piqued my interest this past year for some unknown reason, so I will take full advantage of this new hobby. Hopefully it will be intact since there are so many great books waiting to be discovered!

message 1623: by Eager (new)

Eager Reader (TheEagerReader) | 16 comments Hi! I'm new here but only under this username (does that have you guessing?!). I opened a new GR acct because I started a book review blog and didn't want my other blog followers to know about it. Why? So I can post whatever I want without any judgement from people who know me or have followed my other blog for a long time. You can find that here: http://eagerreaderreviews.blogspot.com

Anyway, I'll go ahead and say I love Twilight and get that big elephant out of the way. Recently I've read Hopeless by Colleen Hoover and Beautifully Damaged by L.A. Fiore ... Hopeless was good and Beautifully Damaged was pretty terrible.

Anyway, nice to meet you all!

message 1628: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments Looks interesting! i'll have to admit that D19 has a bit of Vampire/Vampire Hunter relationship a bit at the end, but the book isn't focused on that at all. It's about Jamie joining D19 to save Jamie's mom, finding out the truth about his dad, and facing off against the 3 original Vampire Brothers who were turned by Dracula himself!

Whoa my older sister did the exact thing in 2008! She had her wisdom teeth removed and asked me to read Twilight outloud to her. I can't stop reading now!

message 1631: by L.M. (new)

L.M. Augustine Hey guys! I'm L.M. and my YA romance debut just went up on Goodreads a few hours ago, actually. But I'm here as a reader, I promise. :-)

I think my favorite book I've read recently (because I can't possibly choose a favorite of all time) is THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE. Well, that or THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. I'm kind of in a dead-lock between the two. Point is, if you love YA contemp and haven't read those, you MUST. Seriously.

Right now, I'm reading ANGELFALL by Susan Ee. I've heard great things about it, so I'm excited to get started. The first chapter already rocks.

Looking forward to meet all of you!

I'm an author, school (Yr7-13) librarian, reader, mother and book lover. As an avid reader I'm pleased and excited about this group. I enjoy all genres (although I'm not overly keen on horror), but especially romance, paranormal, sci fi and dystopian. I look forward to reading everyone's recommendations and reviews.
I have dozens of favourites, but the book I pull out every year to reread is A Day In The Life of Ivan Denisovich.
