cerreads 🪄 | 1 comments Hi, my name is Cerra and I'm a bit new to Goodreads! I started using this app last year, put it down for a little while and then picked it back up earlier this year when I began reading more often again. I have always been an on again off again reader, but am hoping to remain on, now that I know just how endless the book world is! I would love to meet new people and be part of a reading group where I fit in (hoping it is this one!) I do not have a ton of time to read, so sometimes that sets me apart, but I do love to sit on my days off and try to finish a book in one sitting haha. Currently I am challenging myself to finish my physical TBR before buying any new books so we'll see how that goes. As far as my favorite book, it would have to be The House in the Cerulean Sea, I absolutely ADORE Lucy! Anyways, happy reading and I hope to get to know some of you!

yzzy (yzzyyyyyy) | 4 comments Hi, I'm Ysabel. I'm a teenager and I really love diverse characters in books. My favorite book series is the Unwind dystology by Neal Shusterman. Two of my favorite recent reads are Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and The Obsession by Jesse Q. Sutanto (I love powerful women portrayed in books).I love to read but barely have the budget to buy new books so I usually just read the ones in my school library. I hope that I get some new recommendations and favorite books from this group! :)

message 9308: by Aleck (new)

Aleck (lulzyyy) | 0 comments Hello. I'm Aleck and I have a very bare Goodreads account, lol. I am 32 years old, a single mother, and work in a library. My serious relationship just ended and I realised that I have no identity, this was especially made clear when my therapist asked what my hobbies are. I realised that I, ironically, haven't read books in a long time. My favorite has always been YA, although I do not like fantasy so I find it difficult to read a lot of recent YA (at least the ones my system purchases). I am really not a fan of sci-fi/dystopian books either. (Do you see my reading issue here?) My favorite movie genre, however, is horror, so I am going to try to make the cross from "realistic" YA to another venture. My favorite book always has and always will be The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I do not have a favorite author, but I am particular fond of David Levithan's Will Grayson in Will Grayson, Will Grayson. That is another favorite of mine. I joined this group because I wanted suggestions and knew this was a place that would at least give me a few as I try to begin this again.

Mia (miasreads) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Mia :) I enjoy a wide genre of books and it's really hard to pick my favourite genre but i think i have to go with fantasy. Some of my favourite books are City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare, Woman in the window by A.J Finn and The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith. I know they seem a bit random but I just love exploring new topics and different writing styles.

message 9316: by CK (new)

CK Timber | 1 comments Hi, I am an author of MG/YA fantasy adventure and paranormal cozy mystery short stories, novellas, and novels. I have a couple romances out there, but they are erotica and not genre appropriate for YA. Everything else I write is aimed at being fun, engaging reads for young and old alike. Including the occasional sci-fi. Most will have some kind of historical notes woven in.

I love the classic epic fantasy adventure most when reading. I covet going along the journey of overcoming great odds and beasts to win the day. That's me.

I adore listening to audiobooks, and cozy mysteries are my favorite. But Terry Brook's Magic Kingdom of Landover is probably my favorite for fantasy. Maisie Dobbs, by Jacqueline Winspear is my all-time favorite cozy.

I am 68 years old and began my writing career back in 2017. I am a semi-retired horse trainer and massage therapist by trade. I have one daughter grown with two grandchildren with whom I spend a great deal of time.

I am on Goodreads to promote my books but also to network and make friends with similar reading interests. That, and I want to learn what YA readers want. What do you read or wish you could read?

Thank you for allowing me to join.
CK Timber

Veronica - I need a husband, to have a fancy last name (palmaris_longus) | 3 comments Hi! I'm Veronica (Wow who would have guessed), I'm 20...and I fell in love with books when I was 7, thanks to Brandon Mull's Fablehaven. I mainly read fantasy, ya and whodunits, but I also try to read another genres from time to time. Besides, I love everything related to medicine (and I guess I can be sometimes annoying bc I'm pointing out everything that is incorrect from the medical point of view... yeah a student life broke me in some way).
Anyways, feel free to add me as friends (I'll obvsly add you back) ☺️

message 9325: by Fred (new)

Fred Gracely | 4 comments Hey. I'm Fred (not Frederick or Alfred, just Fred -- I was named after reclusive "great uncle Fred" who died shortly before I was born and nobody knew his full name, so in honor of him, I was named just Fred - the name of the pet turtle in nearly every story that has a pet turtle).

I'm joining because I love to talk about books - writing styles, story crafting, themes, dialog, character development. I'm kind of a story crafting geek. I love fun, whimsical fantasy stuff. The kind of book that takes you into a delicious fictive trance where you laugh and shudder and cringe and cry and make new friends. That's why I write. I absolutely love the artistic challenge of creating that sort of experience for a reader. Some of my favorite books are Septimus Heap, Shadow and Bone, Wrinkle in Time, The Alchemist, The Book Thief, Fault in our Stars, Golden Compass and yes, HP. I'm way past teen years, but I love the beauty and simplicity of these books.

Curious: is this a group where I can ask opinions about how I've crafted a scene, character, new creature or section of dialog? I'm always looking for feedback.

For instance, the kind of thing I'd like to ask is "Do you like it when authors step into the role of poet-narrator or would you rather they just stick to action and dialog, staying closer to the mind of the MC?" Example:

"His eyes ran over the ornate serifs and twirls of the words while a breeze rustled the leaves dangling over the gravestones. An owl hooted in reply, serenading the thin clouds sliding in front of a low, large moon like a flock of ghosts."

Too poetic or helpfully atmospheric?

My favorite book is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and I'm a huge fan of sci fi/fantasy and young adult books. Favorite authors include Shannon Messenger, Rick Riordan, Leigh Bardugo, John Green, and a lot, lot, more, but it would take too long to list them 👍

message 9328: by Mia (new)

Mia (miarose7) | 14 comments Hi! I am Mia. I'm from India. Loving and hating some books with passion are two of my few expertise. I read more books than I own and I am always down for a buddy read. I own a blog, and it's doing the best it has ever done. I am a mood reader and currently in contemporary phase. For me, first impression of the book, almost always, is the last one, so if I think would hate it within first few pages, I probably would. I have been Dnf-ing a lot lately; YOLO and I'm dying soon. Alice Oseman, Ashley Herring Blake and Taylor Jenkins Reid are some of my favorite authors. And the only author I do not like and potentially will never read from, is CoHo.

I would love to make some friends here!

Fantasy is definitely a huge go to genre for me but I’m trying to branch out to some contemporary books as well.
