cassandra Elves | 2 comments Hello! My name is Cassandra, I am pretty new to GoodReads. I think the very first YA series that grabbed me by the feet and took me down the tunnel was Eragon and then I discovered A Great and Terrible Beauty, from there it was history. I am now just getting back into reading and YA is surprising me with all these interesting finds.

Sneha | 1 comments heyyy!!! i'm Sneha and i'm new to goodreads. i read the harry potter series last year. But ever since finishing the series, i was kinda in a reading slump and now finally, i actually feel like reading and i believe i'll enjoy it a lot. i'm currently going to start the percy jackson series and later good girl's guide to murder :) also i loveeeee reading murder mysteries or mysteries in general (that's my favourite) and fantasy but i would like to explore different genres.

i haven't really read many books so i feel like i'm kinda new to this reading thingy, hence, i would really appreciate recommendations and any general information i need to know abt reading and stuff!!! :D

You're in a good place! Reading takes you places that even movies and television can't. I think it's because it's like you crawl into a book--like you actually go to that world, much more than in a movie. (And don't get me wrong, I love movies and TV.) I don't know. Has that been your experience? That total immersion thing?

I loved the HP books, too, and am reading them to my nephew now. I've only read the first of the Percy Jackson books.

Most recently, I loved one of our Books of the Month, Clap When You Land. It's a verse novel, and the language makes me feel her emotions so well. If you read it, jump on the discussion thread and we'll meet you there!

Connor Coyne | 2 comments Hi, I'm Connor. I'm a big fan of YA lit, although I realize that most of my favorite YA authors were writing ages ago: Madeleine L'Engle and Francesca Lia Block come to mind. I really enjoyed Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta.

Madeleine L'Engle is my fave.

And here's my Francesca Lia Block story: I was at the American Library Association conference in 2012, a wonderland where you meet authors at every turn and get free, signed books. I was in the back of a line for a Francesca Lia Block signing and got into a group conversation with a bunch of writers, including this very animated woman I immediately connected with. The line was long and the time for the signing was getting close. I had another signing to get to (my own) and wondered if I'd get to meet the author. At that point, the animated woman I liked so much looked at her watch and said, "I'd better get going," and promptly went to the front of the line, sat down at the desk, and began signing books.

blueorchid ♡︎ | 1 comments hi!! i joined a couple of days ago and I'm so excited to be here :) I've always had an addiction to reading since i was little, but recently from the pandemic that love has increased. from that, my English teacher recommended joining Goodreads and i love every second on here! i adore YA books, also mixed with thrillers. my favorite authors are colleen hoover and holly jackson, but honestly i fond any authors that make it to my 4-5 stars list. it's an honorable pleasure to join this community as my first, and can't wait to view amazing YA recommendations!

sephora ౨ৎ⸆⸉ (godblessthishotmess) | 48 comments hi!!, i've been in this group for a while and joined GR a couple months ago, but i dont think ive formally introduced myself on here.

i'm swara, gen-z stereotype, introverted bookworm, avid twilight-hater, & self-proclaimed anime enthusiast (i have watched barely five episodes of naruto and mha each but i still like them lol). i'm from SoCal and that is my defining personality trait

Recurring genres of mine include ya fantasy, mystery, contemporary, and adult contemps.
my favorite trope is enemies-to-lovers - i can hear u judging me.
i'm OBSESSED with misunderstood villains; draco malfoy is the best person to exist periodt (oh but doofenshmirtz is really close!! ugh *chef's kiss*)

authors include but are not limited to: cassandra clare (a gift from above), tahereh mafi, john green, sabaa tahir, marie lu, nicola yoon, maureen johnson, roshani chokshi, veronica roth, & victoria aveyard
aside from reading, my life is pretty boring; i love musicals, specifically DEH, rent, and hamilton; taylor swift; and nail art.

anyway, my account is basically a jem carstairs stan account, so feel free to friend/message me if you're willing to put through my hours of ranting abt how he deserved better

honestly.... I've read so much books, especially series' when pandemic started. It was also when I got into YA. One thing I'm sad about... It's getting harder to find good YA books TwT

message 8520: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Francis I'm Christopher Francis - I have to admit, I don't have a favourite author. WIth young children in my house, I'm spending more time reading children's books than anything else. But I do like to end my evenings with a YA read. I tried the Gifting, but am not into it, so I'm looking for suggestions.
My preference is YA Dystopian stories.
Thoughts?

Noodle | 1 comments Hi I’m Dani, I’ve been a big huge YA fan for years. Love dystopian worlds, ‘chosen one’ tropes and epic fantasies. As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to branch into more ‘adult’ fantasies but find they don’t have the same hold on me as the YA genre. If anyone has some good recommendations for some all ages YA (that makes no sense, I know 😆) please let me know!

Shay | 21 comments Hello everyone, my name is Shayla and I just recently joined this group as I want to get more involved in book loving communities. I joined this specific group because it seemed to have a wide spectrum of YA books. I am not usually for the rom-com or normal YA, but instead I prefer the more thriller or paranormal side of the YA genre. I am excited to hear recommendations, as well as talk about my favorite books with a group.

Thank you for the kind words, Katherine! :)

I *love* your Francesca Lia Block story. She is very active on Twitter, and it's neat to have a popular author I enjoy so accessible and open to communication with her fans! That kind of story is also nourishing right now, when so much of literary life is online... just imagining meeting and chatting with an author I admire is absolutely delicious!

Hi Lucrezia,
Good for you writing and reading in English. My second language is French and I admit I am sometimes lazy when I have a choice between English and French. It's good for my brain, though.

That's awesome. Checked out your website and it's impressive. We do have to be careful here about doing promo in the discussion threads. There is an authors area for us, where we can do giveaways, though. It's a good balance.

Welcome!
