People who have read The Lux series immediately fall in love with it because it's impossible not to!
BUT DAEMON Now that's a character that even when I'm happily married he still going to have a special place in my heart.

Hi Charlize, I have the perfect book recommendation for you! It's called The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. It's set in a fairy world, and has magic, fantasy, drama, and romance. It's one of my favorite books and I think it would be a great book for a new reader interested in romance and fantasy.

Not really a newbie, I guess, but have not participated much, or even visited the site often. One thread I saw here asked our age ... hmmm.

Age is such a subjective thing, and my tastes change depending on what I'm in the mood to read.

YA (of all genres) contains a broad set of stories and characters, from His Dark Materials, with its well constructed worlds—I personally think this trilogy (one story spanning 3 books) is a masterpiece—to short tales, like Star Girl, or On Watership Down, or the Twilight books you get a large span of literature all grouped together. My answer for "best or favorite" book changes.

I prefer a trilogy over a "series"— (or a stand alone book); it seems that authors struggle for an excuse to write a new book with the same characters, and (IMO) the quality fades fast after the first in a series, mostly, although I'm sure there are exceptions.

I also read scifi (not surprising for a retired physicist, I suppose), and classics (Steinbeck was —IMO— a great writer, ut not every book). Good books are good books, no matter who writes them and no matter the genre or target audience. YA is a target audience and not really a genre. I also write, but am taking a multi-year a sabbatical after publishing my 4th book, and don't really feel like going through the pain of the revisions and editors just now, even though I've promised to write part 2 of a trilogy I started in 2011 and published in 2015.

Back to age: chronologically, I'm 62, although like Peter Pan I like to think that one's mind can be ageless. I suspect this number puts me at the high end of the statistical distribution for this group, but maybe not.

Right now, and always, I'm looking for good books—ones with compelling characters, consistent storylines and worlds, or stories built in this world. The key is in the character development and the writing. I read a LOT when I'm not writing or whatever, so right now I'll be seeking out more titles to read.
