My name is Kim Vermaak.

My favorite book…. Well, that is a very hard question.  My favorite books have changed over the years according to my life stage. And in a year’s time, my answer will change.

For a while, Wilbur Smith was my favorite. River God was rich in world and character building.

As a teen, I enjoyed Danielle Steel and her A Perfect Stranger made me cry in a way I still remember. Sometimes when I need an injection of TLC I still revert to her.

Francine Rivers’ The Mark of the Lion Series cultivated me.

A hybrid of business and storytelling was the One Minute Millionaire, and I was hooked on how stories and convey wisdom.

As a student, my favorite was Terry Prachett and his Moving Pictures captivated my imagination.

Clive Cussler is my favorite adventure series author. Sadly, two of these great literary heroes, Terry Pratchett and Clive Cussler, have now passed on.

When I am not reading and re-reading my second book edits, I am reading two other books.

One is by Adrienne Woods, Firebolt, a wonderful fresh book with teens and dragons based in current times.

And I am also reading The Healer by Rob Radcliffe, a UK based author who studied in SA for a while.

I would love to devour both these books in a single weekend, but my editor is pushing. LOL.

In between I have to read oodles of children’s books for my kids.  I have a 18, 7, and 5-year-old.

Looking forwards to interacting with this group.

George (Books n' Guac) (booksnguac) | 67 comments Hello, my name is George! I started reading YA books in October of 2019 and fell in love quickly (The Hate U Give and What If It's Us were my firsts), and made a Goodreads account in February to motivate me to read more because I enjoy YA books so much. I've been in this book club for about a month(?) but I've been too shy (why?) to post something here, so yeah, I exist, guys! My favorite book I can't decide, but my favorite author is probably Rainbow Rowell (love her).

Hi, Rohini here. I love reading YA fiction, mostly YA Fantasy and YA Contemporary, along with a little bit of murder mysteries and light romances. My favourite books include: 1984 by George Orwell, Harry Potter and Hunger Games (obviously). Book Thief by Marcus Zusak, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge. My favourite authors are JK Rowling, Neil Gaiman and Margaret Atwood.
Although I tend to get busy with work, I try to make time and read books :)

Haley☀️ | 2 comments Hi! My name is Haley! :) I'm pretty new to Goodreads and I haven't quite gotten a grasp on how to really interact with other readers on here, so i figured why not just join a group and give it a try? I've always loved books, growing up my Mom taught my sisters and i that reading and literature is extremely important, and to this day books are something my my sisters and i still bond over! I love LOTS of different YA genres, including but not limited to : Fantasy, Contemporary (especially the cheesy girly romantic stuff!!), Historical Fiction, Science Fiction, i love dystopian worlds, really anything with a good synopsis i'll read. The books that really got me into reading consistently were The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, those books really made me believe reading was a lot more fun than i ever thought it could be! Anyways, more about me, I'm 20 years old and i work as a Preschool teacher! I'm currently going to school (online now unfortunately) to get my teacher qualifications and certifications, and i look forward to hopefully learning about more of you and having many discussions about the books we love! I hope everyone is staying happy, healthy, and safe!!

L (lizofwords) Hey there! I’m really active in goodreads so if you want to be friends, feel free to chat me. Don’t know how to start or what to talk about? You can start by telling me your favorite book or a book you would just recommend to me. I would appreciate it! I love YA but I’m pretty much flexible to other genres. Also, I’m a hardcore romantic so romance is a must for me, even minimal romance would be fine as long as I get to ship characters. I hope to gain many friends in this club! Be my first one :)))

Jazzy (thecuriousreader) Hi to everyone who is reading this!

My name is Jazmine, or you can call me Jaz, and I am 19 years old. This is my first ever book club so I am super stoked to have a community to just talk about books, books, and more books. I have been dying to have a space where I can gush and rave about the same books with other people.

A little bit about my personal life, aside from being a book lover, I love animals. I work with dogs specifically in a wonderful small business in my town. I do everything from doggie daycare to bathing dogs and helping customers find the next best thing for their furry friends. Another love of mine is hiking. Being outside and challenging yourself to get up that mountain just seems to really connect me with myself and the world around me.

I hope to get to know all of your lovely faces on here and make some new friends and read some new favorites!

Jessalyn Joy | 97 comments Split Second

I'm currently reading Split Second a young adult novel by Kasie West. It's the follow up to Pivot Point. I'm 27. I live in Iowa. I love reading. I have read 605 books in my entire life and 55 books this year with my goal being 75. I love young adult novels but I also love contemporary fiction, science fiction, romance, crime/mystery/thriller. I do not like horror. I have about 70 books in my house that I'm going to read over the next month or so but I am always up for suggestions. But please don't take it personally if I deny your suggestion respectively. I'd like to know if anyone has read Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I am interested in it but want to know what someone who has already read it thinks of it. My favorite young adult book so far is This Light Between Us by Andrew Fukuda. I also like historical fiction. Some of my favorite authors are Stephanie Meyers, Kasie West, and Ellen Hopkins.

I've wanted to have the same result for Goodreads and feel able to do so with my experience and knowledge (about social media and connecting).

If I may offer to fellow writers, I'm available to rate and review your work (each work) with the format I've done at Twitter that I'm trying here as well now. I enjoy helping everyone with R/Rs especially to promote honest readership, plus reading helps my own writing.

message 6424: by Katie (new)

Katie (caitlin330) | 1 comments Hiya I'm Katie, I'm 16 from the UK. I read a lot when I was younger, books along the lines of Maximum Ride, Sophie McKenzie series etc. Dropped out of reading for a while, then read ACOTAR and, as u can imagine, it all kicked off from there haha.
All time favourites for YA fantasy have got to be anything Leigh Bardugo, anything Sarah J Maas (obviously), alongside the Darker Shade of Magic series and the Crown's Game.
Fav YA fiction has got to be the All For the Game series.
Finally, I'm a self confessed sucker for any romance. My fav at the moment is Red, White and Royal Blue, but The Sun is Also a Star & It Ends With Us are both strong seconds for me. I will unabashedly become invested in a character's relationship, and if it goes wrong I find it genuinely distressing. But in all fairness, the ones that go well are so satisfying.
I'm really in need of book recommendations, cause I don't have a lot of friends that read, and I've run through all of the big series. Any recommendations would be fab :)

I also really like A Darker Shade of Magic, Salt to the Sea, The Fault in Our Stars, the Hunger Games, and Divergent.

And I would like to keep it that way:)) I am stuck to YA books...like literally STUCK to it. I...don't have a favorite book by I prefer Fantasy YA and anything else. I also particularly like to read translated novels. I guess my favorite authors are Sarah J. Mass, J.K. Rowling, MXTX(MuXiangTongXui-search her up if you don't know her) and Shannon Messenger.

message 6428: by Brett (new)

Brett Johnson | 6 comments Erika wrote: "What's your name? Favorite book? Author?"

Hi my name is Brett. I have always enjoyed anything regarding a series because of character growth, it's really cool to see your favorite characters change throughout the story and see them adapt to different situations and how they overcome. That being said, favorite book series would have to be Harry Potter, it's an all time classic for me. It definitely gave me that passion for reading. Favorite Author would be J.K. Rowling, but another author that will always hold a special place in my heart is S.E. Hinton. As she was the author of the first book I ever read, "Rumble Fish". Her most known book being "The Outsiders".

I can't wait to get to know everyone more!

I fell in love with YA and teen romance last summer when I got access to an online resource called Bookshare that allows blind individuals, (I'm fully blind by the way), to download ebooks in braille. The first thing I downloaded was City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, and from there ... Well, you know the rest of the story. I finished the entire Shadowhunters series in less then a month, then spent the rest of the summer searching for as many romance novels as I could get my hands on. (Pun fully intended.) I recently discovered Goodreads and absolutely love it. If anyone has any recommendations, PLEASE message me. :)
