I love both of them. Will and Jace can't wait to hear from you guys soon. Dying in wait for the sequels come on CassandraAaAAHHA!!!!
I think you should read them in the order of their release. (First three TMI then Clockework Prince) It's kind of cool how they connect to each other...and you find little tidbits in one about the other. I loved them both!
MI....... ID is too much of a deja vu and nothing's new... feels more like an echo. and Tessa's irritating while Clare was cute.... so Mortal Instruments :D (and of course Jace ;) )
I love Mortal Instruments, but somehow I never felt the call to read Infernal Devices. I may read Infernal Devices at some point, but it is not first on my tbr list.
I love the Infernal Devices more than The Mortal Instruments. But I would read TMI first, because ID will make more sense to you.
I read to book three of TMI and literally, like, right now, picked up ID. I'm taking the first book to read at the gym while I run. :)
TMIs were my first favorites, for I read them earlier. But I knew when I read TID- Clockwork Angel last year that it'll be the better series.
Well, she grew as a writer in between, right? Took everything she'd learned and incorporated that into her new series so I guess it makes sense ID would be even better. ??? That's my theory, lol.
that makes sense...but I really enjoyed the Victorian London setting. It gave the story more depth I think, and was a little bit creepier!
Infernal Devices. Though I LOVE Mortal Instruments, the relationships between the characters and story dynamic is more intriguing in ID. Plus, you cant appreciate the nuances of MI without learning all about the family backstories in ID. I can't wait to see how the two intersect in the end.
I loved Mortal Instruments. Just couldn't put down the books. Was anyone else that way just couldn't put down this series at all?!

Althought to be honest I refused to continue reading when I thought Jace and Clary were siblings, I was too grossed out. Thank goodness for spoliers online!
(sigh) IF JACE AND CLARY WERE RELATED....i'd gather up a few *cough*a lot*cough* people and form a mob, then march up to cassie's house and...and....no, i love her too much (sigh)
I'd say read Mortal Instruments first but I prefer Infernal Devices because of Jem Carstairs being the sweetest and greatest character ever!
TMI. I just could not get past page 1 in infernal devices. I have tried the book 3 times and only got distracted by other books :|
I've only finished the first book of ID so it's too soon for me to choose between the two series yet. I loved MI! However, ID has me hooked so we'll see...Oh and PS. I have a question on MI ... some people told me to quit reading after book 3 because the series starts to read like it's being milked and it ruins it. That a two 'certain people' just have more drama about being together after you thought it was done. It reads contrived and the fourth and fifth books should have focused on supporting characters at that point. Do you agree, or should I keep reading MI?
Julie wrote: "...Oh and PS. I have a question on MI ... some people told me to quit after reading book 3..."I'd have to agree - although I'm holding out hope for books 5 & 6. TMI has been one of my favourite series for ages, and I also really like the ID series...after City of Fallen Angels (TMI) ID took over as my fave of CC's series. I'm also looking forward to 2015 (?) when her other series starts up...
I like that CC started out as a fan-fiction HP author and has made it big like this!
I love both series & as others have suggested, I'd start with TMI. For me book #4 in a way sort of feels like the start of a new trilogy after the way #3 ended. ID isn't everyone's cup of tea. I love it because at the time the first book came out, I was just starting to get into the victorian/steam punk style of books. I liked the back story linking into the characters/families from TMI too.
Mortal Instrument for me... First and formost personally never been a huge fan of the Victorian Era and right now I don't like how TID story has unfolded Im not a big Fan of Jem((gasps)) I know shocker hes soo sweet blah blah balh lol and atm I really want to slap Tessa I just feel a stronger attachment to the TMI characters there really isnt one of them that I dont like Maybe if I had read TID first I would feel different
I prefer the Infernal Devices because I love the time wherein it is written, and I adore Jem :DHowever, the immortal instruments are good reads :) .
So I read TID book 1 and 2 and I am thinking about starting TMI. But does TMI have any spoilers for TID? (I heard that some of the last names pop up?) Cuz if it does I might just wait until I read TID 3. Also I can't stand Jem or Tessa but Will is pretty great :) So if Clare and Jace are nothing like them then I would look forward to reading their story :)
I love the TMI books with a passion. I read them when the first came out. So when the TID books came out, naturally I bought it right away. I was suprised that I just couldn't get into it. I read the first half of the first one and then stopped because I was bored. I honestly feel like I am betraying Cassandra Clare, because I love the TMI series so much, but couldn't get into this one. I'm thinking about trying to finish it. Does it start to pick up after the first half? Maybe its the time difference. I'm not a huge fan of victorian era books. I don't know. Should I try to finish it ?
I love them both. Cassandra Clare has easily become one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style and both of these series are riveting. I can see where some wouldn't like it so much because of the time period but I'm a bit of hopeless romantic and adore that time period anyway so...yeah.
Mortal Instruments!!! Although I enjoyed both I wasn't completely into Infernal Devices. The edgy modern world with a steampunk twist just rocked it for me in Mortal Instruments.
I really loved the mortal Instruments but I haven't read infernal devices yet. One day! Simon and jace, woo! P. S where is my movie?
I love both series but I prefer The Mortal Instruments. The plot is more enticing and the characters are just perfect.
And TMI has Jace Herondale ;P
Both series are fantastic, but it took be a while to get into TMI. Her writing gets much better and I completely fell for Jace. HOWEVER, she does recycle some themes and they start to get old after a while. That said, her latest in the series, City of Lost Souls was fantastic. I prefer TID because 1) Her writing is now solid and 2) I love the Victorian/steampunk elements. Totally creepy. 3) In the first book, I was completely Team ___. But in the second book, she managed to make me switch to Team ___. (Not an easy feat for me).
She keeps surprising me, and that's why I keep coming back for more!
I started reading the TMI first then read TID, but it didn't really change wich way you read it. They are both great series though even though I've only read the first book toTID and the first two to TMI!! <3
I like the Infernal Devices better. I've always been a fan of the victorian-era and I love Jem's character!!
I follow my friend's recommendation of reading them in the order they were published, to get everything in the right order since they overlap a tiny bit! It's hard to say which I like more though, since they're definitely different from each other even when being similar, but I think TMI will always be a little more loved since it was "the first", haha!
