I think I see your problem: You're actually writing fantasy.

In the same way that SF can have fantasy elements and still be considered SF... fantasy can have SF elements and still be considered fantasy.

Sometimes, when authors find themselves teetering on the fence, they find they are much more comfortable just picking one side of the fence, and occasionally beckoning to those on the other side.
