I agree with you about Light. That makes sense. I never really thought about L's quirks. They probably do have significance. However, to determine what this is, one must look into your second question. Who is L? What are his motivations? Are his methods moral? Once that is figured out, we can connect it to his obvious quirks by seeing when he does what. I personally love L so I'm biased. However, I think he represents to opposite end of "the ends justify the means." He's basically doing what Light's doing, killing people for the greater good. He's just killing less people. Then there's also his goal to think about. Light wants a perfect world; L wants the killing to stop. We must also consider that. Are L and Light more similar than we thought?
I liked Light and Ryuk. Light because I thought he was an interesting character who seemed really human and turned into a more dark character with power. Maybe that was part of the author's intention, that good and evil are intertwined? Ryuk because I like his dialog and he's just cool.
I think Light is one of the most intriguing and well-developed characters I've ever come across, manga or otherwise. I liked L, but he felt rather 2-dimensional in comparison.
I really like Ryuk, Light, and L. But I honestly had the hardest time warming up to Misa. It was like she was ruining Kira's reputation and then she was so clingy to Light it became obnoxious. Even worse when she becomes jealous or goes and does her own thing without Light knowing and destroying his plans.

I find it offensive that the only female lead character in this series is an actress/model who will do anything to please her man.

L and Light. It was interesting to see how much Light's personality changed after he got the notebook. As for L he was very efficient in his job and his love for sweets was endearing.
This is the first manga i have read and it was truly nice especially Light Yagami's character surprised me as he was very intelligent at a young age but i didnt believe that near would be able to catch Kira

Leading to the ends justifying the means I think you're right as this opinion really does sway the leader towards liking Light or hating him.
Out of blatant curiosity do you think that L's obvious quirks like eating or sitting or really just the way he is holds any significance?
And he also relates to whether or not the ends justifying the means because in order to catch Kira he puts a bunch of people at risk like the first prisoner he killed on TV to lure him out.
Could also be using evil ways to make the world a better place?
I do agree that it's nice to dig a bit deeper into what you casually read (Maybe if we analyzed manga in Comm. Arts it'd be waaaay more interesting) especially manga and anime series because the results are often very intricate and well put together for what you thought was just randomness
