Joyce Harmon | 7 comments Hey, anybody here publish on Smashwords? I have a puzzling situation I hope someone can explain.

A month ago, I published my mystery Died On The Vine on Smashwords. They have that stats page that shows you your page views per day. When I first posted my book, I facebooked and e-mailed and twittered and got the word out to everybody who knows me who's connected to a computer. That first day, my page views were about 40. Since then, when I'm not actively promoting, my views have been about 4 or 5 a day, getting up to 10 and maybe 20 if I was going around the web that day promoting the book and myself.

Yesterday, I'd been thinking I should do some promotion, it had been a few days and my views were skimming along at their low rate. But when I looked at page views, they were going up - and up and up. They kept going up all day, finally ending at 125. Today they're still going strong, up to over 60.

That's great, but - what happened? The only thing I can think of is that the book had been on the web for a month. I wondered if maybe there's some popular book index that updates once a month, or what?

If you've published on Smashwords, have you seen the same thing, and do you know what causes it? And does it keep going?

I only wish I had that many page views. It's been verrrry quiet on Amazon and Smash (my book) so... I can't say I know - other than maybe WORD OF MOUTH? Given them time to READ your book, then they told someone, etc. BAM it worked! Hooooray !
congrats
